the usual service on Sunday last, the Catholic
Church in St. Josephs took fire, and burned to
the ground. The fire originated by some im

—A fellow from Friendsville„ named Calvin
Smith, was arrested last Friday for vagrancy.—
Fie has an aged mother in the above place, who
he left penniless a few days previous. He prom
ised to go back and take care of her, and was

On Friday evening, March 13th, the Stock
train going cast, near Cameron, came in contact
with a large buck deer on the track, knocking
him off the track and breaking one of his leg.
The conductor, Ben Jones, of Cameron, report

Examining Eggs for Hatching.
The Massachusetts Proughmon says eggs on
which a hen is setting should he examined after
seven or eight days, to see if they contain chick.
ens. Thie can best be done at night by looking
through the egg, held between the thumb and
forefinger, at a candle. If there jo a chicken in
the egg, the egg will appear dark. If it is clear,
and hooks as if filled with melted wax, it should
be removed. As soon as examined they should
be carefully replaced under the hen.

Another Railroad Accident.
An accident occurred about 6reelocit on Tues
day morning in trabi:No.:3 oatdie Erie Railway,
at a point known as Red Mill Cut, between two
and three miles east of iVelltiburgb.
The accident was. Quaid by: a broken rail,
which to all appearance 'arm; brcikenhy the en
gine of the train. The engine, tender, baggage
and.postal cars, passed the break,. hut the first
three passenger coaches were not so kortunatei .

across the track, and the last one was thrown
oil, but none of the passengers in those two
coaches were injured.
