Cure for Lockjas -.
A correspondent of Or EkleptVic American .
recommends turlientin a - certain cure - for
lockjaw. He aaya: "Let ally one who has an
attack of lockjaw take a email quantity of tur
pentine, worm it and Tour it on the.woithd,' no
matter where the wound Is or wtet its nature
is, and relief will follow in less than one minute.
Nothing better can be applied to a severe cut or
bruise than cold turpentine; It will give certain
relief almost intamitly. Turpentine is also a
sovereign remedy for croup. Saturate a piece
of flannel ou the throat and chest, and In very
severe cases three to five drops on a lump of su
gar may be taken inwardly. Every family
should have a bottle on tuna" The remedy is
simple and can be easily tested. In all serious
cases an application should be made under int-til
e-al advice.
Vd" A good story is told of a Tioga county
ruerehont, who agreed to take a farmer's oats at
40 - cents a bushel if the latter would let hint
tramp the measures when tilled. The farmer
agreed to It The buyer paid for sixty bushels.
and next day went after them The farmer
tilled the half-bushel, and the merchant got in
and tramped them down. Whereupon the far
mer poured the oats Co compressed into the bag.

the measure should he tilled up alter tramp

no agreement of that sort, but that he might

We hair of a very simple and complete thresh
ing machine, having been recently invented,
',Melt is worthy of the attention of agricultural
implement manufaeturers. The machine 13 in
tended to work by hand, treadle or power, and
threshes and cleans the grain at one operation
The grain is threshed out by two sets of rapidly
vibrating Hails, and the unbroken straw is car
ried off to the rear of the machine, suite the
thrnshed grain falls Into a rocking sieve, where,
under a strong current of air from a small blow

ear Another railroad from this place lo be
built to Factoqville or Nicholson and to con
nect with D. 1.. & W. RR, is now under con
sideration. We understand that a charter for
such a road has been obtained at the instance or
that road. Of the feasibility and cheapness of
the route there is no quaition—as the creel; run
ning front both of those places to the river, hen%
has tunnclle•l the mountains and made the most
complete arrangements fur a road bed, with an
easy grade.
This link, if built, would enable people from
this, and places north or us, to reach New York
by a much'ncarer and cheaper route. The trade
from this region too, which the building of the
L. V. Mr has greatly lncreised and opened up,
would be restored to Scranton, which place by
the present arrangement is neatly cut off from
the valley - of the Susquehanna. Budne , s men
and property holders in Scranton should aid in
Minding this road as 'the benefits to them would
be as great or greater than to the rwilroad coin
