Disturbing Religions Meeting*.
' In many places it seems to be a behef
among young men, that religions bodies
have no rights which are hound to he re
spected. Our community is, fort unately,
not grievously afflicted with this style of
lawbteaking, but it may be well to pute
lisp the facts in a case which has just been
legally decided. A young man named
Seachrist, in Dallastown, York county,
recently so misbehaved himself in church,
as to break up the meeting. Upon his
trial for the offence, the Presiding Judge,
the Hon. Robt. J. Fisher, asserted the
right of religious bodies to form their own
rules for governance, and the liability of
persons breaking them to be punisha—
Seachrist was sentenced to pay a fine of
five dollars, the costs of prosecution, and
to be imprisoned in the county jail for fif
teen days.

Scarlet Fca•er
Is now very prevalent throughout the
country. It is a dangerous disorder when
not promptly taken in hand. It begins
with, languor and loss appetite, followed
by fever and sore throat, and then the
"red patches" on the cheeks appear.
When the symptoms are first observed,
place the child in a room which is warm
hut well ventilated. Administer warm,
weak lemonade with a little gout arable
dissolved in it. Cover the abdomen with
dry wane flannel, then take a neatly fold
ed bed sheet and place it in boiling hot
water, wring it out by means of dry tow
els. arid place it over the flannel on -the
child's abdomen. This must be ri.peated
until porspiration is observed, which trill
not result for some minutes, when the
patient will drop iuto a quiet slumber,
;ind with careful nursing is saved. All of
this may he dune before a physician can
be summoin.sl, and will prove a great
ausilliary to his course of treatment—in
many eases it will enable him to save the
life of a dear child and prevent the dis
orders which almost always follow this
dreadful complaint, when it is not prompt
ly assailed by this simple preliminary
home treatment.—Ex.
County Institutes.
In response to a letter for information
addressed to the State Surkrintendent of
Common Schools by a teacher at William
sport, the said official under date of Dec.
10th, has made the followintlecision
rel
ative to the law regulating theholding of
County Institutes :
" That School Directors are not com
pelled to close their schools in order to al
low their teachers the privilege of attend
ing a Teachers' Institute."
School Directors cannot compel teach
ers to attend aninstitute.
Whether Directors can deduct any
thing. from the salaries of teachers who
do not attend an Institute, depends upon
the contract between the parties."
COST 0 F TILE WAIL -$9,000,000,000
(nine thousand million's) is Mr. Wells' es

This is the cost of abolishing the Con

of demonstrating the negro to he little
superior to the white man. This has been
the cost of radical administration of the
federal Government for a few years only.
