Death of D. Wilmot.
lion. David Wilmot died at his resi
dence in Towanda, on Monday March 15,
about 1 o'clock, p. m. During his life he
acted as politician of some note, being a
member of Congress, a candidate for Gov
ernor of Penn's, U. S. Senator, Judge of
the court of this district, Judge 6f the
Court. of 'Claims, &T.. Ile leaves a wife
and one son.

Fire in Montrose.
About one o'clock on Saturday last, a
fire was discovered in Rogers' carriage
chop. The rear part of the shop is used
for the blacksmith's shop, and a small
barn adjoins. It. is supposed the fire took
front the furnace while the, workmen were
at dinner. Exertions of firemen and citi
zens saved front part of shop only. A
cow was burned in the barn. Loss esti
mated at $3,000; insured for $2,000.
Natarilizatten.
Aliens who come to the United States
under 18 years of age, can, after five years
residened therein, obtain full certificate of
citizenship, on first application, in open
court, with a witness as to residedce, etc.
Aliens who enter the Union after arriv
ing at the age of ]B, most, after three
years, file declaration of intention to be
come citizens, and at. the end of two
years can obtain the certifies e of citizen
ship in open court, with two witnesses.
Aliens Who'have been in the military or
naval service, can obtain certificates of
citizenship on presentation, in open court,
of honorable discharge, and proof of one
year's residence in the country.
Miner children become citizens upon
naturalization of their father.
Declaration of intentions can be filed in
Prot honotary's office at, any time, with
out witness; but certificates of citizenship
can only be granted when Court is in ses
sion, and witness present. •

The Freshet. .•
The water in the Susquehanna is said to'
have been -nearly as high recently as ; in
1865, when much damage-was done. The
food seems to have been greatest-about
the 15th, and its results in this region ere
reported hereunder :
