    Where the Little Feet are Waiting.
BY DEXTER SMITH•
Put away the little garments
That the darling used to wear,
She will need them on earth never ;
• She has climbed the golden stair;
She is with the happy angels,
And I long for her sweet kiss,
Where her little feet are waiting,
In the realm of perfect bliss.
Lay .aide her little playthings,
Wet with mother's pearly tears,—•
How we shall miss little Nellie
All the coming weary years!
Fold the dainty, little dresses
That she never more will wear,
For her little feet are waiting
Up above the golden stair.
Kiss the little, curly tresses
Cut from her bright, golden hair ;
130 the angels kiss our darling
In the realm so bright and fair ?
Oh ! we pray to meet our loved one—
For a long, long, sweet embrace,
Where the little feet are waiting,
And we meet her face to face.
-On Going to ,Chnrch.
Some go to church just for a walk;
Some go there to laugh and talk;
Some go there for speculation ;
Some go there for observation ;
Some go there to meet a lover ;
Some the impulse oft discover ;
Some go there to meet a friend ;
Some go there the time to spend ;
Some go to learn the parson's name;
Some go there to wound his fame ;
Many go there to doze and nod ;
But few go there to worship God !
THE Doc; AND ma MASTEIL—The Al
mighty, who gave the dog to be the com
panion of our pleasures and our toils, bath
invested him with a nature noble and in
capable of deceit. He forgets neither
friend nor foe—remembers with accuracy
both benefit and injury. He bath a share
of man's intelligence, but no share of man's
falsehood. You may bribe a soldier to
slay a man with his sword, or a witness
to take life by false accusation; but you
cannot make a hound to tear his benefac
tor.— Walter Scott.
—The Richmond correspondent of the
New York Times mentions, as a sign of
progress in Virginia, that a colored mem
ber of the convention recently sent one of
the pages to one of the leading white
members for a " chaw of tobaker, which
was courteously sent in the form of a ten
cent plug. Black gentleman bit off a big
quid and sent the remainder back. This
is a touching evidence of returning har
mony between the races.
—There is a deacon in a neighboring
town 'named Day. One Sabbath morning
he heard a number of boys playing in front
of the house, and he went oat to stop
their Sabbath breaking. Assuming a grave
c•romenance, he said to them :
"Boys, do you know what day this is ?"
" Yes," replied an urchin, " it's Deacon
Day."
—Seme years ago it was reported that
835,000 in Government bonds bad been
lost, in an ocean steamer, and evidence
thereof was presented to Congress, where
upon new bonds were issued. It appears
now from a statement made in Congress,
that since that time a large portion of the
missing bonds have been presented at the
Treasury Department and paid.
—A chap inquired at the post office in
Erie, the other day, for a letter for "Eery
aidg••n." He was told there was none.
" Look 'ere," he replied, a little angrily,
" you've hexamined a hodd letter for my
name. It don't commence with a haitch.
It begins with aho ! Look in the ole that's
got the ho's !"
—The joke pratical does not always end
as harmlessly as in the case, of Nathaniel
Appleton, who found, on riding up to the
bons!e of his beloved, that his rival's horse
was hitched to the gate. Unhitching him
and giving him a smart stroke with bis
rawhide, be walked in and inquired whose
horse that could be cantering down the
street. It need not be said that he found
the coast clear at onee and took good pains
to keep it so.
—A good anecdote is told of a well
known vagabond, who was brought before
a magistrate as a common vagrant. Hav
ing suddenly harpooned a good idea, he
pulled from a capacious pocket of his tat
tered coat a loaf of bread and a half dried
cod-fish and holding them up in triumph
ant look and' gesture to the magistrate,
exclaimed :
" You don't catch me that way ; rm
no vagrant. Ain't that visible means of
support, I should like to know P"
—So far in the present fiscal year $134,
838,013,88 have been collected as internal
revenue. Under Democratic administra
tion this sum would pay nearly all; under
Ridical rule the whole vast stun amounts
to but a drop towards the vast, public ex
penditure.
—Tbe late Democratic State Conven
tion was one of the most harmonious as
semblages that ever convened in this State.
