Tribute of Respect. •
At a meetbag of the, Montrose Engine
Company Nii. 2, held Feb. 224, 1888,--the
following preamble and resolutions were
adopted
Whereas, Annillwise Providence has re
moved from. our-, midst Henry Drinker,
Esq,,iititember - ofthii Company. therefore
Resolved, That we recognize in our de
parted brother, the liberal and patriotic
citizen, the firm and sympathizing friend,
whose hand was ever open to relieve the
anfferipg and needy
Aeiolved, That we deeply sympathize
with the family of the deceased, who have
suffered the loss of a devoted and affect

and protector.
' Resolved, That a copy of the foregoing
be furnished the family of the deceast d.

The Montrose Fire Co. No. 2 assembled
• at. the Franklin Hotel on Saturday, ese
' Ding, Feb. 22, for their Annual Supper.
Aftetpartaking of.a,must bountiful re
past, and listening during the interval to
the musicof the Montrose Cornet. Band,
the company listened to responses to the
toasts prepared fur the occasion.
A. J. Brewster introduced a " play" in
Kesikottitt-tAthe,following toast,:
"Our Working Members.—All work
and - no play makes Jack a doll boy."
Although it was hard work to hear all
the 'answers, tbo play went off well.
" Our Hon. Members—honor to whom
honor is due."
Response by J. B. McCollum, Esq. his
remarks were very appropriate; and we
regret we are unable to give a full report.
"Our Town Council—they propose and
we dispose." -
Response by A. Chamberlin, E-q. The
ToWn Council had aided the Fire Compa
nies of Montrcse by building cisterns and
l reservoirs, and in procuring Hose for the
Engines. As a member of the Council he
would encourage the Fire Companies,and
that the council would meet any reasona
ble demand.
"burlory iu our

F. a Chandler becanie elBquent over
the historical relations of our Company.
' He enlaiged • upon the inability of the
Itongkautl Ready Fire Co to protect the
town ; that our Council saw the necessi
ty of another Engine, and ordered the one
we now have, against which several citi
zens sent a remonstrance. Ile gave a list
of some of the pioneer members, and told
bow we came up to our present psi
' thin through trials and discouragement,
overconiing .obstacles and surmounting
difficulties.
" Our 'Revenue—A watchful eye, a
prayerful heart, and a helping hand."
A. J. Gerritson said, the question of
revenue, not only with go‘ernmeut and
individuals, but with an organization like
iiiis is of vital importance, and without it
,We, might be compared to what our band
would be without their instruments, or
ibtk occasion `without the supper. Having
no speech prepared, and fearing he might
fail to make any original suggestions that
will fully impress upon our minds the
practical point which he had in view, let
rao i quote a -mot unfamiliar charity sermon
' front the text, "He that giveth to the
Poor lendeth to the Lord." The sermon
was—" If"you like the security, down
with the dust." So if we would merit
protection from the fiery element let us
act upon the
,hint, and the short comings
of this response can be made up in legal
tender. "A watchful eye" will not only
guard the funds in the treasury, and note
that others pay 'their dues, but see that
,'its possessor contributes a liberal portion.
"A prayerful .'heart and „a lielpingband"
i
are inseparably, connected' both' n the
toast and in-practiCe, for no matter how
full the heart my swell with good intent,
the band must be freely extended or we
cease to be honorary members. But let
us each haves watchful eye, a prayerful
-heart and a helping hand, and we will not
i:fail in raibitig Our.Reitenue. •
