This greatest curse to farmers is now in
bloom anti rapidly ripening. Let farmers
everywhere cut all upon their oviii lands
and roads adjoining, and see to it that any
neighbors neglecting it are notified
according to law. Let penalties be en
lorcedfor neglect.
We bear talk of enforcing the fine for
allowing it to ripen.
Payne Pettibone, of Wyoming, says :
"It. can be exterminated by cutting
below the surface. Cut off the crown of
the roots a few times and it will disappear.
If the seed has hitherto ripened and a
fresh crop comes up repeat the cutting."

Patent Atmospheric
CHURN DASH•!
Patented May 7, 1867.
The ,nowt Important and Valuable Inven
tibn (2% the 19th Century,
1. This Dasher is superior to any other, by being as
simple as the old Basher, and comkinirig the atmos
pheric principles therewith, and the Butter Gatherer
It is superior to all others, inasmuch as the same
power applied to this In like mechanical operations
gill make one fourth mire reciprocations.
3. It is sugerlor to all others, inasmuch as It produ
ces the Butter in a much shorter time,
4. IL is superior to auy other, inasmuch as it produ
tee a much better quality or Batter.
3. It IF superior to au, other Patent Churn, inns
much as it Is 500 per cettUcheaper than any.,other.
It is weeknowm to Dairymen and others, that Butter
is contained In minute globules or racks, covered with
a membrane, and requires the action of air to prepare
the covering to be removed by friction. The Scientific
American ssr :
"If cream is dashed against a hard substance, or
Masliedhetween tars or rollers, it breaks the globules
and becomes olly, by destroying tho grain. It should
be thrown into currents and counter• currents
by the action agar, causi ng a friction by the action of
the currents aguinst each other. removing the covering
without breaking or burst i rg the globules."
This is the principle which the inventor of this Dash
endeavored to keep In view, and the result shows a
mach larger yield of Butter obtained in less time than
by any other Dasher.
'Extierlments have proven that any other method ex
cept pumping air through the cream, will not penetrate
sufficiently to oxygenize all the globules preparatory to
concentrating the Butter. Throwing It into the air by
clanpers or old fashioned Dashers. does not sufficiently
expose it to the air to bring out the Butter.
The above Patent Dasherbas been purchased for Sus
quehanna County by the undersigned. The process of
churning can I.c seen at any time, in a Glass Churn, at
Baldwin, Alien McCain's store. An agent will can
the county soon as possible, to sell the Dasher
for individual rights; also township rights will be
sold.
