Mlle 5ch0015.....-
. The County Superintendent of this
County reports, for the month of Janua
ry, visits to 58 schools, three of which
have been re-visited, making in all 81 vis
it. The visitations made with him are as
follows : Two by Teachers, eighteen by
citizens, and fifty-five by Directors. He
has held three special public examinations
by request of Directors, at which 18
teachers were examined, of whom five
were rejected. Also, that be has traveled
284 miles, written 30 official letters, and
spent 27 days in official duty.
A special public examination will be
held at Friendsville, Feb. oth, at which
none will be examined except a written
request be presented, signed by at least
four Directors of the' District in which
they are employed. .
During the month of Febraary,Sclutiols
in the following townships will be Visited
Middletown, Rash, Auburn, Springville
Diumek, Lathrop, Lenox; and Clirord.
-Mr. J. Mi Craford has been , employed
by the Sup't, and will assist. him in the
above named townships. -
—We trust the people will taste special
notice DOM-above, and render all aid in
their power in this matter, and- in all
thingi relating tithe interest of the
sehool system.—)Ed:-
ASSOUOeII- Musk Book. •
We have recently examined specimen
sheets of blanks fer the use of township
assessors, which are worthy of notice.
They are to be bound in book form, and
supplied by Co. Commissioners to asses-
sore in each township. The -blanks are
neatly printed and ruled; contain a col
umn for entering the full name of every
tax payer, so as to aid in obtaining aior
rect fist of Jurors; , have a column under
tho name of each and every article, kind d f
property or class of occupations subject to'
taxation under our State Laws—in short I
are a complete guide to the assessors in
making full, correct, intelligible returns,
so as to secure equal and just taxation.
Tboy are very desirable for use, as a reo
ord,*and for reference for various purpp
ses. It is pot probable that anything
which-at all compares with them as to
present and permanent usefulness, has
ever been devised, for such purposes.
They are the work of W. A. Crossm on,
Esq., who has for many years been the
popular and efficient Commissioners Clerk
in this county. After having been in ur , e,
for some time, and their value tested, he
has had t4m improved and copy-right
ed. Other counties are procuring them;
and we doubt not that if every Board of
Commissioners will examine, purchase and
supply them to their assessors, they will
be satisfied that they have a good invest
ment—a profitable one to both officers
and the public.
By order of Corn
By order of Com.
Rejected by the Senate.

iMs been rejected by the Senate. His
cr•mmis•ion, like all others issued during
the recess, is good until the 4th of March.
10 the meantime, and after the adjourn
ment, the appointing power is vested in
the Piesident by the Constitution.
The settled policy of the Senate is said
to be the tejectieu of all friends of the
President, who took the places of remov
ed radicals.

ownership of real estate in this village.
Hyde Crocker has purchased house and
lot of O. M. Crane; A. H. Smith the house
late of Mrs. McCollum; Z. Cobb of P.
Hinds; F. M. 'Williams of Daniel Searle;
H. H. Frazier of H. H. Dunmore; Mrs.
Sherwood of . E. Beebe; Wm. Vanoradale
of ; LT. Purdy of T. Hamlin; Jo-
seph Lewis of Robert Strange; Geo. Lew
is the Finch house; J. D. Goodwin of
Pierson.
Robbers Sentenced.

the six men arrested for the robbery of
the hope Express wagon near Wilkesbar
re, have pleaded guilty. They have been
sentenced to pay a fine of $5O each, and
to undergo an imprisonment of five years
each in the State Penitentiary. All the
bonds and money were recovered, with
the exception of $202.
