The Naryleuul Negro Sale.
One branch of Congress is in a ferment
to d: y about the sale of several colored
people in - . Maryland under a decree of
court, after conviotion of crimes. One of
the• parties—Dick Harris—was found
guilty of stealing beef; and sentenced to
be sold,:for six months. Not being a very
valuable woolen fabric, he was bought in
by his brother for fifty dollars, and he is
now__ working at Amapoths for eight dol
lars per week. Had he been a white maa,
the law would have required a sentence of
from one to fifteen years in the penitenti
ary. None of the other blacks who were
sold brought so high a figure. - -
The law under which this sale was made
was passed by a radical legislature and
*waved by the radical Goiernor Brad
ford...ln the. Senate it received every
vote except two, and the voteia the house
stood 4810 6.
The sa me
,Legislature which passed the
bfis Pseud the, "treason. bill,!--aud-the
defense loan bill," which put the " loyal"
stamp upon its character 'beyond guts.
tior4 If there is any wrong about " the
rivival of slavery in Maryland," it is,
therefore, to be laid at the door Of" the
radical league house.
What is singular enough—or what
would be strange in any other times than
the present—is the fact that out in Mis
souri the Radical Legislature lately passed
a,law requiring white_ vagrants (persons
out "of emp!opueni) to be sold to the; high
est bidder, arid under it some six va
grante, were, a few days ago, sold by a
court at St. Louis for six months. Is it
worse to
_sell a :negro beef thief for six
months than to sell a white man for the
same period, for no other crime than be
ing out of work 7—. Y. F. Express.

The GrOver & Baker Mastic Stitch sewing Machines
are superior to all others for tbo following reasons :
1. They sew direct from the spools, and require no re
winding of thread.
2. Therarer more easily understood and need, and
eat+ liable to derangement than any other machines,
3. They are capable of executing perfectly. without
change of adjestment, a much greater variety of worla
than other machines.
4. The stitch made by these machines is much more
firm, elastic and durable, especially upon articles which
require to be washed and ironed, than any other stitch.
5. This stitch, owing to the - manner in which the un
der thread is inwrought, is much the most plump and
beautiful in use, and retains this plumpness and beauty
even upon articles frequently washea and ironed until
they are worn out.
6. The structure of the Befouls snob that, though It
be cut or broken nt intervals of only a few stitches, it
will neither open, run, or ravel, but remains firm and
durable.
7. Unlike other machines, these fasten both ends of
the scant by their own operation. 3
8. With these machines, while silk la used upon the
right or face side of the seam., cotton may be used upon
the-other side without lessening the strength or dura
bility of the seam. -Tilts can be done on no other ma
chine, and Is a great saving upon all articles stitched or
made up with silk.
0. Thesetnactines, in addition to their superior mer
its as instruments. for sewing. by a change of adjust
ment, easily learned and practiced, execute the most
beautifhl and permanent embroidery and ornamental
work.
