Ma. DAVE you oblige several
of the 'readers 'Of your paper, -by answer
ing the following tpicattotts ? •
Is there to -be a regular course of lec
tures in' MOntrose the coming winter ?
If so, under what auspices ? And how
are people who live, outside of Montrose
to know when they occur, and who are to
lecture ? •
Last Wednesday eve, I happened to be
in.Montrose,and hearing the Court-house
bell, enquired what was going on. The
answer was: " John W. Fowler lectures
here this evening."
I was greatly surprised and somewhat
indignant—not because Prof. Fowler was
to deliver a, ..lecture---.but because it had
beenitept eo very quiet thatlerdly a per
son living outside of Montrose knew any
thing about it. • •
Quite a respectable portion of the citi
zens of Dimock, and I suppose the same
maybe said of the other towns_ around
Mbiltroie, would gladly attend the
course, if they could know when the lec
tures are to be given. I was so fortu
nate as to hear Prof. Fowler, and I feel
that treceived the lull . worth of the two
shillings, I paid at the door. I hope to
be able to attend the next lecture—if it is
not kept a secret.
Please inform us whether the course• is
intended for the Young Men of Montrose,
alone, or will the citizens of Dimock,
Brooklyn, and other towns be welcome
ao attend. * *
Dimock, Nov. 3 1866.
—ln response to above we will state
'that we understand there is to be a series
.of lectures during the season, upon liters-
Tv and scientific subjects; and that it is
.desired and hoped Ow, the people of the
county will take an interest in and at-
Tend the same.
If our correspondent had read the Dem
ocrat, he would have seen a notice of
7Prof. Fowler's lecture; and we presume
that the young men who propose to get
air and sustain this series of lectures, will
me that timely publication is made of
each future leci ore, so that all who read
the papers may•take due notice and gov
ern themsehteP, andttheir friends— espe
their Lady friends, (if they have
tiny) accordingly.

Before they had bnoneht their Poulos to their pres
