BroOklytt, Susquehanna county, Pa., on
the 3d of August, 1831. It was his good
fortune to have virtuous and intelligent
parents, • who labored to instil into the
mind of their son 'those noble principles,

ly manifested during his brief but Lonora
ble career.
The rudiments of his education were
received at - home, and at the district
school, which afforded but few facilities
to aid the ambitious youth in his efforts
'to ascend the ladder of learning. Desir
ous of obtaining a more. liberal and thor
ough education than could be obtained in
the schools of his own neighborhood, he
entered llarford University as a student.
