Characteristic Veracity.
The league organ says that . " the rebel
sympathisers"-in" Montrose were pleased
to hear there was to be another draft, as
alleged by the bogus Foe. The creature
who corned that slander has much more
meanness than sagacity; else he might
have known that if there were any who
sympathised, with rebels, or who even M
aned in that way, they could not by any
possibility rejoice at a draft which would
force them or their friends into the army.

Manufacture of Woolen
Goods.
c).7a.tLi="l"Elit. 3.
THE MANUFACTIMIE OP WOOLEN GOODS, both
in the household rind the Dietaries, bas become of
great importance on account of its forming at present
our principal article of clothing. The nature of our cli
mate makes it necessary, and the scarcity of Cotton has
groat, y increased the value of wool and fabrics made
from it ; and being engaged in the business of making
Cloth and Flannel, and also 801 l Carding. and Cloth
Dressing, we have thought that a few remarks with re
gard to handling Wool, and the proper process of mono
factutoi might be of service to the country, and a bene
fit to ourselves.
The first process with the farmer who intends to make
his wool into rolls fore
r gin r i z :g and weaving at home,
after washing and shea ,Is assorting the finalities.
rids we do not expect a er to do as perfectly es a
regular manufacturer, but by trying he will approa, mate
towards it, and be amply paid ter the little pains re
quired, by having an even thread and smoother fabric.
The fleeces should be whole and should bo spread out.
on a table—the coarsest wool will be Tuna on
the skirts of the fleece, and can easily be distinguished
by looking closely to the fibre. Two qualities from each
fleece wilt perhaps be close enoogh for ordinary m e t"
es, but as the sheep in our country differ .miten
grades of wool—ths coarse part of one'may do to go
with the finer part of another, and thus make three or
tour qua li ties out of the lot. If it is going to the menu
factory or to market, the fleece should not be torn, but
after removing the tag-locks, should be rolled up com
pactly, skin side out. Not less than one pound of lad,
fresh butter or oil should be sent with every ten pounds
of wool going to thecarding machine.
The next thing of importance is of course to be well
carded, for which we will be entirely responsible ; but in
the matter of spinning and weaving, we have another
caution to add. Unless the Its evenly twisted, and
beat up evenly in the loom, e cloth shrinks unevealy
to ftalling—making some p ees wide and others tar
row. and If the finisher succeeds in pressing out the
wrinkles, the cloth will resume its contortions again
when made into a garment, and the mechanic is some
times wrongfully bl am ed for a coat's becoming lantern-
Jawed on a man's back. It is easily avoided by giving
the wheel an equal 'number of turns to a given length of
thread drawn oak We find this &faculty increased of
late ydra, and have come to thetoncluston that if some
of the spinnerb do not keep better time on their pianos
than on their Spinning wheele r we should hate dreadful
ly to listen , to their music. ---:
As every moment of labor should be employed to the
best advantage, and everymmce of material appropla
ted to thebest purpose, on account of our war, we pro
pose AD write some other chapters on our brim of
