Secretary Seward is Auburn
The Secretary of State, during Ins visit

full as startling as anything we have had :
one of, which, if it has any meaning at
all, has one so pregnant with evil,
that it is

does, could have made
The first position taken in this speech
'is the one the radicals are everywhere ta
that the administration and the gov

remarks at Auburn; 'wrote - as follOws to

Gen. Price has retreated with most of
his army from Arkansas to the Red River
Valley of Texas, where ho hopes to do
something in aid of his rebel confreres in
Western Louisiana. Thus the entire state
of Arkansas has been rescued front rebel
rule, and is once more in the Union.
Affairs in the army of the Potomac re
main unchanged. Considerable firing . was
heard on our extreme left, on the 15th,
proceeding from our cavalry and the re
bels, but so far as ascertained, nothing se
rious occurred.
It is-known "beyond doubt, that the re
bel army, with the exception of detach
ments of cavalry, have moved to its for
mer strong position.
General Meade was in Washington on
