A REVIEW AND REFUTATION
HELPER'S IMPENDING CRISIS.
9PHIS PAMPIILET, consisting of 64 double column
.J pages, was originally published pending . the political
canvass of - 1860. The Impending Crisis,' is cortipt
latioa of all the sophisms and malicious doctrines :by
which the public mind, of the North had been so far pais
oned as to produce the triumph of the Presidential can
didate of the sectional parts last fan. It was widely eir.
culated gratuitously, by int; aus of large contributions of
money. and did more than any *other thing to deceive the
masses of our people. In this Peden , and'licfutation,;We
take up.each of its chapters separately, and every impor
tant assumption In detail, and refute them so completely
that no interligent person can mud the pamphlet althea
being convinced of the falsity of all the wicked assump
tions of the Helper book and of the folly of the sectional.
strife which has. culminated in civil war. As there IsMo
probability that peace will bepermanently • restored to
our distracted land until the public mind stabs North is
'disabused of erroneous impressions relative to the tine
chat . acter of our Southern ulster States, most of whom Ire
now in rebellion against our general government, as the
result of the triumph of sectional fanaticism both North
and South,—it_becomes the duty of all truepatriots tci.do
all in their power to remove unjust prejudices between
the North and South. and there is probably no more eijic
lent means of accomplishing this result,'than by general
circulation of onrAfutallon of Helper. It contains a
large amount of valuable statistics, worth, for occasional
reference, several times the price of the pamphlet. than
intelligent citizens. Price 25 cents per copy, or $2 Per
dozen--sent by mail, postage prepaid.

in all the principal Citiessand
Towns in The United States.
The Grover & Baker Sewing Machine. Company are
now manufacturing, and have on exhibition at their dif
ferent salesrooms, machineamaking.the Shuttle or Lock
Stitch, of the same patterns and atthe same prices as.
their celebrated Grover & Baker Stitch Machine.. thus
affording the public • the, advantage of comparing the
stitches of the the leading machines and exercising their
own Judgment as to their respective merits. This is the
only company that manufactures both kinds of machines
and therefore the only one that can offer this privilege to
the purchaser. .
" W.speak from experience when we say that, after
haring tried all the principal sewing machines, we must
/locoed to-tat Of Grover & Baker the prominence.
Those Indispensable features allowing, strength, uni
formity, and elasticity, all of which are brought out in
this incomparable invention, make it •the first sewing
machine in the country. Others hare their good points,
but this combines all, and poisesses every characteristic

" Iticrar vs. PnareNce.—We.perecive that the Grover
,t Baker Sewing Machine is every day growing more
tend more in favor, both for manufacturing and -family
purposes—but espettially as adapted to all the requirr,
mute of family nee. Other machines, by dint of brazen
puffery and conniving with committees at annual fairs,
have been thrust forward into the first place; but they are
fast losing this unmerited position. The real merits of
the Grover ,k-Baker Machine. arc beginning to be known
In a practical way, and daily Is the demand for them in
creasing. while the demand for heretofore better known,
but inferior machines, isyroportionately decreasing. So
it turns out. In this, as In mans other instances, that *hon
esty is the.best policy,' and the right, in the end, comes
uppermost
c A trial of of er two years enables .ns to any with the
greatest ccmfidehce that - there is noi better' machine for
general Fatuity use than Grocer & Baker's Sewing Ma

not rip with wear or washing, runs almost noiselessly,
Is plain, steeple, easy to work, and not liable to get out
