Par Dont fail to help elect Poster for
governor.
Hmvur D. FosTEU. The prospect for
the election of our gallant candidate for
Governor, are getting brighter every day.
A letter from Old Berke informs us that
bld citadel of Deiriociacy willroll up at
least 7,000 majority for him'. In. the
Eastern part ofthe State we can Inok for
stunning FOSTER majorities . This-is What
Curtin alluded to the other night ' when
he appealed to the , RepublicanNof Erie
county to help save him from the opposi:
t ion of the "cotton interest " in -Philadel
phia. He knows al! the candidate of a
sectional party he will be beaten by thou
sands in Philadelphia. In the West,
Pia rks will redo a the Itepubl'c.an major
ity handsomely, his personal popularity
here being great, The Curtin is about to
fall.—Erie Oatette.
. Tint Craaus Cientisarr.—Great conster
'natioti has seized the army of !applicants
for census , clerkships at :Washington, in
consequence of inability to pairi the rigid
examination to which they are subjected
in mathematics, in general knowledge of
statistical sulijects, &c. The examining
committee had these twelve appointees in
hand for three hours and .a' half, and
.among the rejected Ones was a professor
in a literary • Institution ! This rigidity
will secure an excellent force of -compe
tent clerks, but it, his frightened the ap
plicants. Persons who have been in
office here Or years, as high as the chief
•clerkship of an important bureau, undergo
the same minute examination.
4,Wr . It is always the case at; the' time
of Presidential elections, that the opposi
tion to the Democracy start into the cam
paign perfectly surelof success. After a
time they are not — quite so sure—things
change, and facts speak louder' than boas
ts, or the glare of torches: then ss ' the
elction approaches they get on , the,
anz
ious seat, and when the voting comes
they are routed, "horse, foot and. drgoons.
So it has been in times past. So it will
be - this fall.

the Oxygenated Bitters has ever, been intro
