ISIIENTY THOUSAND DOLLAR FORORR
CAUGHT.—The Louisville Journal relates the
circumstances of a young man respectably
connected in Canada ; who forged,his father's
name to the extent Of liinty thousand do! ,
lets, raised the money, and got as far as Lou
isville, where his father traced him, "finding
him at a hotel._ The Journal adds: - He was
about starting to Portland, for the pur
pose of taking a clerkship on a ,boat which
lekport last- evening; having, contracted for
Cie fourth interest of the boat, and paying a
heavy bonus, with the understanding that the
whole amount should be forth coming as soon
as his wife arrived, who was making arrange
ments 'to meet him here. Officer Clayton,
having been informed of the affair, concluded
to go passen g er in the same omnibus. When
they got to Twelfth street to take the cars,
the officer having convinced himself of the
young man's - identity,!equested him to walk
back with him, telling - hian that his fittherwas
at one of the hotels and was waiting to. him,
and calling hind by his proper name. At first
he denied being the person, but the officer
insisted upcin a compliance with his request,
and the son then yielded. The fon was then
taken to the room of the hotel where his fath
er stopped. The meeting is described as a
most affectionate - one, tears rolling , down the
father's cheek. -They will leave for home on
the early train this morning. -It is nut the
