is, Oct, 26th, says;
A protest, signed by several prominent
citizens of Kansas, was sled on the 15th inst.,
against the fraudulent retort's of Orford pre
cinct, in Johnson county, in reply to which
after a per.onal investigation, Goternor Wal
ker ana Secretary. Stanton published .proc
lamation in the lierild of Freedom, of the
20th in"t.. ettpres‘ing a deteriiiination to re
ject the entire vote of Oxford, and give Certif
icates to 'the i Free. state eandidatez.
The proclamation produced an intense' ex
citement among the eictieme Pro-Slavery men,
and threats of vengeance were made Against
the Governor and Secretary.
On the 1) instlof protest *as made again-t
the assembling of the ConstitutiOnAonven
tioir by a Mass Conventicin of the peCiple, held
at Lecompton.

'Mr. 'W. hai been generall known by all our
citizens as an honest, upright, industrious man ;
a kind husband, an indulgent father : doing eve•
rtthing be could for his family. and promptly.
Ills health had been generally good-till the past
summer, when -he became conscious of the near
approach of his end, and made every arrangement
for the closing op of his business. The Friday
before his death, he went to Montrose to settle
some little matters, and told his family and nth
ers that it was the last time he should ever go
to Montrose, or evenaway from home, and. so It
proved. He leaves a wife feeble health, eud
three worthy children to moulm (Wt. loss.
