wealth, entitled "An Act prescribing the time

ratification or rejection the proposed Amend
ments to the Constitution," approved May Ilth,
1857,1 am directed, that, for the purpose of as
certaining the sense of the citizens of this Com
monwealth in regard to the adoption or rejec
tion of said Amendments, or either of them,
an election will be held in eachlpf the townships,
wards, and districts in said County, on said se
cond Tuesday - of October. in tbe year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and fifty-seven,
for the purpose of deciding upon the adv.
tion or rejection of the said Amendments,
or any of them; which said election shall be
held at the places, and opened and closed at the
time,nt and within, which the General Elections
of this Commonweshb, are heti opened, and
closed; and it shall beribe duty Of the Jodges,
Inspectors, and Clerks;of each of the said town
ships, wards, and districts, to receive it the
said election tickets either written or printed,
or partly written or partly printed, from citizens
duly qualified to vote fur Members of the General
Assembly, and- to deposit them in a box ir
boxes to be for that putpose provided byllor
proper officers; which tickets shall be respec
tively labeled on the outside, "FinstA mcndinent,"
"Second Amendment," '-Third . Amendment,"
and "'Fourth Amendment," and those who are
farolable to said Amendments, or any of them;
may express their desire by voting each as many
separate written or printed, or partly written or
pented ballots or tickets, containing on the in.

made "the duty of every Mayor, Sheriff, Deputy
Sheriff. Alderman, Justice of the Peace, Consta
ble or Deputy Constable, of every city, county,
township or district within this.C'ommonwealth,
whenever called upon .by an officer of an election
or by three qualified electors thereof, to clear
any window or avenue to the window of the
place of General Election which shall be obstruc
ted in such n way as to prevent voters from ap
proaching, the same : andit shall be the duty of
the respective Constable of such'ward, district
or township within this Commonwealth, to be
present in person or by Deputy, at the place of
holding Elections, in such ward, district or town.
