GUANDIPATHEWS . WATCH.
Grandfather's watch is batter'd and - old,
Innocent quite of jewel on gold;
`Poor and 'Common, and, worn and crackl—
.
)duch like Grandfather's self, in fact.
Xet its Vheezy voice. has a cheerful sound,
And the'cliild, as she listens in wonder bound
To its mystic tales of departed tithe, •
Ia smiline , as though at a pleasant rhyme.,
I
I What are the tales the old watch tells!
10f seventy years it counts the knells;
(Years whose

With 'primitive form_ and, clumsy skill,
And clumsier help when the - Works went ill;
Yetserving their time, as best th ey . can— •

Many a fall has,the old watch hush'd, •
I Many a blow has the old trian c crash'd.
Meddled with, tiakeed;and sorely tried,
lAt last rejected and thrown aside
•
For modern •rivals,,all science and gold,
itlieless, crippled, despised 'and old,
lUnder a cloud and under a ban—
This is the story of Watch and man!
there's a reverse to the pictnre sad;
