Freclricksburg crossing of the Guadalupe,that
a lieutenant from Fort Mason, with a party
of twenty dragoons had a fight with twenty
' Indians, on the . Guadalupe about forty miles
above his place. The troops were folkiwing
' a trail, (id came upon the Indians where they
- were encamped, before either patty was aware
.of trie close proximity of the other. The
lieutenant ordered his men to dismount, and
leaving nearly one-half to guard the horses,
charged the indians with the otherl' Three
Indians 'were killed,and ',versa wended. They
were . so taken by surprise, that they made„
little'or no resistance, but fled to the mount
&ins; leaving their horses, ')ows,artows, booty
- ,and 'camp equipage behind.'
