Gas :—We take much pleasure in rec
ommending your Salamander Safes to Merchants
and others in want of a smite means of preserving
their books, papers, &c., from fire, as the nue we
purchased from you about eleven months since bus
preserved our books, and cash in as good a coudi
lion es they were when put into it, before the
great fire this morning. which destroyed the en
tire block of buildings corner of Chestnut and ,Fifth
streets. The above was inmate in our office, on
the second floor of outbuilding, from which place
it fell into the cellar and remained there until the
•fire was out. The Safe • was then removed .and
opened in the presence of at least 1000 persons,
who witnessed the good condition of the contents.
