Last twenty thousand American fishermen in

The warlike demonstrations in the Senate
MA not have the effect of calming this feel.
i h z. The greatest anxiety is:therefore, felt
for' the spay adjustment of the difficulty. If
Anerlean blood should be spilled, war would
be inevitable. The negotiations which are
pm wising are, doubtless, rendered more vim- I
prated by the fact, that the President dbes
feel warranted in making any concessions
is England, for the opening of the fisheries,
celess the matter is first submitted to Con
gress; and the feeling of Congress at present,
is not the most amicable.
The omission, by the President, in the cot..
respondence sent to the Senate, of Mr. Web.

that gemJeman for his course. -

was calm, in his department, A few minutes
after 11 o'elock, Dtr. F e recd, the keeper of the
prison, accompanied by . the Sheriff, lIIr, Deal,
entered his cell, to . pinton him and prepare him
for execution.. _This was very affecting. 'The
procession was then formed and proceeded to
the fatal spot, He carried a crucifix in his
hand, and on ; arriving et the drop, the, priest
ascended the platform With him
' accompanied
by the Sheriff. They spent a few minutes in
religious duties. The priest then said.that ho
was about to dio for a crime of which ho did
not acknowledge himself guilty. '
Skupinski's, last,weirds were.—" I am limo

the crime for which I was tried. Guilty or
not guilty, lam prepared to die." Ho added
something more, in a -low tune, which could
not be understood by the Polish int' rputar.—
His liody has been interred by the priests:
This was all'theiconfession that was ruade.
The priests having descended; ho was left
alone with the Sheriff, who sdjosted the-cap

also descended, and in a few minutes the rope
was scyered, and _the unfortunate man was no

Skapinski displared great firmness, and held
the Crucifix steadily; no tremor, not a muscle
seemed to move. When he dropped, his hands
moved slightly for it few minutes, and then all
was still. .
After the culprit fell, a nervous reaction pro
