=MU. COREESPONDEtiCE OF ME FEW TOES
HERALD.
Washington, July 3-9 P.
The statement ritade in some of the N. Y.
Itspn purporting to be on the authority of
Governor Jones, of Tennessee, that Hr. Clay's
last political conversations were held with him,
is not,l bare reason to know, in keeping with
the facts. For forty-eight hours' previous to
his death, Mr. Clay conversed with no one but
his son. and to him he spoke freely upon sev
eral subjects. Mr. Thomas H. Clay declared
before leaving here, that he would publish the
substance of -these conversations after his ar
rival home. as he rightly believed that the last
cords of his patriot father would be looked
for with much interest, and regarded with
profound deference. Gov. Jones, nor no .other
person but Mr. Clay's son. has a right to speak
of thesematters, as he alone was prustut.
