tion .of the Prostdeot of the Vat
ted States.
Nl'Assrsarox, Friday, April 25, 1851. "
Th a w there is reason to believe theta
r o ta ry expedition is about to do fitted out
in the 'United States, with the intention to
i n vade. the Islaffd,of Cuba, a colony of Spain,
with which this ciountry is at peace, and
, here ss it is believed that this expedition
i#instigted and set on foot by foreigners,
who dare to make our shores the scene of
t h e ir guilty and hostile preparations against
a friendly power, and seek by falsehood 'and
misrepresentation to seduce our own cititeus,
especially the young and inconsiderate, into
thier wicked schemes, an ungrateful return
f or the benefits conferred upon them by this
people in permitting them to make our coma
trr e n asylum from oppression, and flagrant
stmse of the hospitality thus extended to
them.
And whereas such expeditions can
only belegarded as adventures for pluider
and robbery; and must meet the condemns.,
non of the civilized world, while they are
derogatory to the character of our coun try,
in violation of the, laws of nations, and ex
pressly prohibited by our own—statutes
declare that if any person shall, within the
territory or jurisdiction of the United States,
begin or set on foot, or provide or prepare .
the means for any military expedition or en
terprise to be carried on from thence agains .
the territory or domains of any foreign
prince or state, or of any colony, district or
p eo ple with whom the United States are at
ponce, every person so offending'-shall be
detmehnilty of a high misdemeanor, and
shall belned not exceeding three thousand
ciol!ars, :and imprisoned not more than three
years. ;
Now,' therefore, I have issued this my
proclamation, warning all persons who shall
connect themselves with any such enterprise
or expedition, in violation of our laws and
n ational:obligations, that they will 'thereby
subject themselves to the heavy penalties
denounced against such offenses, and will
forfeit their claim to the protection of this
Government, or any interference in their be
half, no matter to what extremities they may
be reduced in consequence of their illegal
conduct and therefore I exhort all good
ritirens, as they regard our national reputa
tion—as they respect their own laws, and I
i 3193 of nations—as they value the blessings
of peace, and the welfare of their country, to
discountenance, and by all lawful means
prevent, any such enterprise,; and I call upon
every officer of this Government, Civil or
Military, to use all efforts In his power to ar
rest for trial and punishment, every such
offender aptinst the laws of the country.
Given ender my band the twenty-fifth day
- of April, in the year of our Lord one
sithonsand eight hundred and fifty-one,
and the serenty-fifth of the Indepen
tienoe of the United States.
By the President.

Trouble with Mexico..
WASHINGTON, April 27, 1 S5l
It appears that a formal ..pomplaint has,
een made by the Mexican government, in
consequence of the repeated Indian out
rages oh the frontier. By the treaty with
Mexico the United States agreed to pro
tect the frontier between this country and
Mexico, from Indian aggressions.
Congres., if will be remembered; at the
last sessson failed to make the apropriation
aged by the War Department for this duty
and it consequently bas not been performed.
Metier, now requests us to ratify the Te
huantepec treaty, unless the provisions of
the peace treaty are carried nut.
Webster probably hastened his arrival
here in consequence of this difficulty The
President, if he deems the matter of suffic
ient-importanee, may order the troops to be
paid out of the secret service fund.
Very Interesting from Mexico.
Tim ORLEANS, Aptil 25, 1851.
The hark Charles Loden has arrived froth
Vura ernis, witli Mexican papers to the 9th
lust., form which we learn that Congress
Nth in session, and that a proposition bad
been madelrrthe lower hems , which would
prohaWr he assented to in the Senate, to ,
ontinue the session till after the 15-tb.
Mexico appears to be in a desperate eon•
dition, and none of her public men seem
disposed to hazard their reputations in an
attempt to restore her prosperity. ,Gener
al Artist, who had management of the
Treasury for a short time, gave it up as a
hopeless task.
Address had been issued - to the com
missioners of the different wards in the
captial, to ascertain the number of foreign
ers if the city, together with an account of
their nationality, character, employment,
St;:.
A bill had also been introduced, to abol
ish the tobacco monopoly.
The Indians in Chihuahua were suing
for once.
The working of the Mexican mines has
attracted the attention of capitalists.
ANOTRER TRAGEDY IN THE SWIM-
The Paulding. (Miss.):Clario n of the sth

a criminal intimacy with the lady of the
houSe, and induced her to elope. The gull,

1 Jenny Lind insulted at Pittsburg.
Pyrrsnono, April 26. 1851.
Jenny Lind's concert in this city, . last
night, yielded $9,000. Some mischeyous
boys threw a few pebbles into the window
of Jenny's dressing room, and at her car
riage on her return home—consequently
she left fur Baltimore this morning, instead
of singing, as announced. This has caused
great disappointment and regret, as, some
hundreds of persons came to the city on
purpose to hear her. The Pittsburgers ail
greatly grieved. However, nothing,' less
than the insulting of the mostasnible Queen
of Song could have keen expected from the
children of those people who were silly
enough to elect such a crazy person as Joe
Barker to the mayorality.
TERRIBLE AFFAIR.-A Whole famliy
Burned to Death.—A trrible calamity oc
curred in Harrison'County. Ind., one night
list week. It appears an Irishman named
John Hanagan, invited his neighbors 'to
what is called a " house warming." The
Indian Argus says, " He was seen aboUt
8 o'clock, in liquor, and it is supposed that
a portion of the family—consisting of Job
Hanagar, his wise and six children, Mt 4.
O'Donnel, Patrick Slave one adult person,
name -unknown, and one child of Jobn
O'Donnel deceased—went asleep under the,
influence of liquor. While asleep, the house
by sonic means caught fire and- the root {
falling in, every one of the inmates, twelve
in number met with a horrible death. The'
spectacle presented to the person who first
reached the scene of the disaster was hor
rible and distressing in the extreme. No
sound was beard save the hissing of the fire
and crash of timbers , every member of the
family baring already expired ; but through
the burning chinks of the house, tho by-',
standers could discern the still unconsumedi
bodies of the occupants. There lay the i
mother with the liitle sufferer bad chin' c
in the last agonies of his horrible death,
the bright flames shooting even from the .
I eye sockets oirthe unfortunate mother. A
sad, sad housewarming it proved to tie, in
s deed. The charred remains of eleven per
sons have been found amid thesuins, while
it is known that one child is lost, whose _re
mains have not been discovered."
MrI:DER IN LLIIT.ENCE CoVNTY.—A
party of young'men-and boys, in Chenango.
township, Lawrence county, were engaged
in serenading a newly married 'couple,' one
crating last week, when a man presented
himself at the door of the house with 4is
tol in hand, whereupon the crowd dispersed
