—merely'renrwking that a good currency is
just as necessary and desirable in the country .
as in the city, and the question addressed to
the members from the city and county, may
with equal propriety be asked of any other
member of the legislature:
Tar Mosan MAIMET.—Tbe New Yorkers
are a good deal plagued and taxed with a de
preciated small note circulation, with which
the swarm of small banks all over that state
flood into the city. How to get rid of this I
depreciated currency is a question of serious I
consideration. A par redemption in the city I
is proposed, and a big bank to enforce it is
zealously urged. The Boston people take
•
some part in the discussion on the subjectfor,
as small notes are tolerated in all the New
England states, the notes of the New York
banks, as well as these of their own • states,
centre in Boston, and being. at a discount in . ll
the city of New York, it is difficult as Well 11S
expensive for the money dealers in the two
citiesto make their exctemge's. There is a
morn:. in these movements that should not be,
without its effect in Pennsylvania just now.—
Petitions are before the legislature for a repeal
of the Lt prohibiting small notes, and a good
deal of clamor is made for the privilege to
bank on state stocks. If this latter matter is
yielded, the other will soon fellow, for the
most of the profits of -this credit banking is
derived from tlie use of small notes, and scat
tered. over the state, as banks under this sys
tem soon would be, their wish for small notes
would soon make them legal. A law would
not be long withheld. Do the members of the
legislature fromtlic city and county of Phan
dclphia, think that their constituents would
willingly - exchange their present sound cur
rency for the dirty and depreciated currencies
tellirti on the cities of 'New 'York and Bos
ton! If they are rightly informed on the sub
ice; we know that they er,nnot so think.—

Thus has been called to her early rest, after
la brief illness of one week, one of the most
kind and obliging neighbors, and one of the
most economical and affectionate wives and
mothers, frank and open hearted in all herin
tereourse, she had but few enemies. All
learned her character only to admire. But
her day of life is over; she has' left a.hesh
stricken husband, an aged father.often C..lled
to sorrow for his childrens' deaths, brothers
and sisters and a large family of children to
mourn her departure. Her funeral was atten
ded on-the 18th ult., at the Universalistehuirch
in Brooklyn, where a le.rge audience of sym-.
pathising friends and acquaintances paid their
last tribute of respect to the worthy dead.—,
it was a mournful sight that few tearless eyes
