Mr Ilickm., of Chester, made a state
ment to the Convention, in reference to the
qualifications and Claims of Juno. STRICII-
L AND, for the once of Canal Commissioner,
and thanked the deleptee who bad sup
ported Lint, for their votes, but declined
withdrawing hie name as a candidate.
Mr Johnson of Lancaster. then rum and'
stated to the convention. that bribe. had!
been offered to delegate to obtain their
votes, and charged that corruption of the;
grossest kind could be proved against eer-
tain individuals whom he did not name.—
Upon being pressed to do so, he referred to
Mr. Donahue, of Philadelphia comity, to
substantiate his otatetnent,whereupon the,
delegate alluded to appeared before the eon
attrition, and threw down upon the table In)
front of the President. nighty dollar., say- I
lag. " there the money is. I despise it."—!
Another delegate, Mn. iirenn. also from
Philadelphia county, announced aloud that'
ho had also received ono loindred dollars;
from the same sour.. These statements
