'The
proposition, sir, is decidedly cool, and quite conde

prompt, and frank.
Tee documents which you have so earl:illy ex

political sentiments have been fully before the pub
lic for years, giving every Individual ample time end
opportunity to torm a deliberate conclusion.
l'heae "official acts" and "exceptional principles"
I have discussed with different persona before Large
crowds, have spread out my views thereon through
the papers, have spoken boldly respecting them In a
majority , of the towns in this county, having noth
ing to conceal, but even challenging investigation.
On the 4th Inst., as you are aware, the Republican
Party, in Convention, assembled in Towanda, weal
nigh ureanimously nominated your bumble servant

unanimity this action was confirmed by the Confer

But, sir, while you are examining the "ground of

notice to your own position. Allow me to aid yon
in this good work. The Republican Party, under
the Teri of our late martyred President, fought the
batttes of our country against Southern traitors and
Northern sympathizers, and for lour long, lei - tin - A:
