Mato about County Fairs.--We hope the man agers of county and other fairs, are awake to the fact that their meetings are to he unusually Interest ing this year. Our farmer soldiers are home again. They are taking hold, many of them, of the accus tomed work of the farm with new zest, and their Interest to see their companiors In arms—and those from whom they have been separated In different army corps and divisions, fighting for the same flag, will lead them to seek all such gatherings. Every body who loves the soldiers will rejoice to be pres ent at these reunions, where the old campaigns will be fought over again, and anecdotes of those that have fallen will keep them alive in our grateful memories. Doubtless sign there will be a division of the exhibition halls set apart for relics from the South, and from the battle fields. This is one fea ture, which will "draw." Besides, we all want to tee those southern homes brought home by the ofil cers—.those thin necked, smooth limbed, light, lithe creatures., that will jump a five-rail fence, or a foot ditch as easily apparently as they will walk across a meadow. !Then too, this has been a very prosperous season. Vegetables and fruits, not rut off early by insects, have done their hest to help make a good shOw, and the moist season has favor ed a rapid growth and large size. The great inter est in fine wool sheep has chiefly arisen since the last show, and this Is another subject of especial at tractiveness. The great advance in wages of farm help awakens farmers more than ever to the neces sity of kno*lng how machinery may do the work for less, and how improved implements will lighten labor, save time, and add to comfort. Many societies are preparing to hold fairs this sea son, which have not done so for several years, and It Is nn less tree that great misty people will this year go to the fairs, who have not seen an agricultu ral and industrial exhibition for a long time. The managers have duties to their exhibitors and visit ors, and those who attend the _show to see what they can, have duties to themselves and their fam ilies. 110 W ♦ OA7TLE BELOW AAD PAIR 11110IILD BD 001 rirCTIM, The list of premiums and order of exercises should be published and distributed free, or in some form easily accessible to all. The tommlttcea and judges should be instructed to act promptly, and if they do not, a new committee should be at once ap pointed who wjll act. Some Indication of awards should he placad upon prize animals and articles as soon as possible, after they are made, to giro addi tional Interest and instruction to ,risitors. It Is most Important flint: No unworthy article should receive (My prim So ffrfze Mould ever be given to "encourage" an un worthy ezhihitor, who has taken pains to bring an in ferior article, and will be disappointed If he does not get a prize. No prim should ever be given to "propitiate" an in fluential patron, who will be offended if his articles are not noticed. Vo pew, thould ever be withheld from an achibitor, Immure he ix taking too many prirea No matter if one man , sweeps every prize offered by the society (un less there is some rule to the contrary.) In every respect the good faith of the society should be con sldered sacred, and in the keeping of every commit tee man. The executive committee of a society should be constantly on the lookout, to secure honest reports; and should a judge be known to violate rules in passing Judgment on his own article, and warping the judgment of his associates, or allowing himself to be biased, his place should be at once supplied by another person. This committe should spend part of each day In listening to complaints, and do ing what they can to right wrongs. The animals and articles exhibited, should not be -crowded, but well exposed to view and careful In spection. And exhibitors should have the fullest opportunity* consistent with She right of others to explain and show off their articles. Ilan exhibitor cannot be present In person, or by an agent, it is most itnoprtant, not only for himself, but for the gratification of visitors, for him to have cards, or circulars, to be taken by every one. In cases where the show lasts several days, convocations in the eve nings for all Interested in participating in an agri cultural, or pomological talk, will be found quite well attended. These meetings arc usually very In tcresting,ll they are only made free and conversation al, and some common sense man has charge of them. They must he seen to, and seen-through, by some officer of the society. The mutual admiration often run into, may be healthfully varied by intro ducing subjects which will call up active, but not acrimonous argument; and nobody should speak much, or more than five minutes at.a time, and to the point. VISITORS' PILITELEOES. We consider It our right, when we visit agricultu ral fairs, to ask questions, and to see everything. If people are not there to show off their machines, we arc apt to act a bad example and work them our selves. Why not ? It la exactly what we pay the entrance fee for; and no hoard of managers ought to consent to have the show of the mere boxed outside of things, which can only be appreciated when in operation. Exhibitors often refmin from showing their articles at work, because they will not thus compare favorably with others. The visitor ought* to know what be wants to see moat, before he en ters ; then when ho first goes In, he should make a business of finding out where the things are with out stopping to look at them much; then selecting the moat Important, take each of them in rotation, sad study each subject thoroughly. The way to do this and come to quick conclusions, is a real gift.— One man will see every good point in a hull, or or take the fine lines. of a plow into his eye at a el:aloe almost; or with one or two pointed gnu,- tlons, test both the weakness, or strength of the ex hibitor and of his machine - at the same time. Stich a man Is a moat desirable companion to one going through a show in the way we speak of; but the Mud company oleo can have, is an intelligent boy, and if one has none of his own, ho can generally borrow one. A. man will meet many acquaintan ces, and his whole day will be wasted, or rather the ehieet , be has especially In view will be lost; unless he Is ready to excuse himself and make aleg i nint merits for some fature time The club meet , If there be one In the evening, Is an excellent fen 4. 7, volts, and a taan may make a dozen social appoint. meats for the hour before it begins. When one has keen what is most important, and his wife and 'young children have made a survey of the knitting work, and have seen the outsides of thloga by themselves, (they will always prefer to be left alone for an hoer or two,) then let the geed husband and :father take them, and see that they see all that is worth seeing. Above all keep away from the noisy hubbub of rough-seulf, pick-pockets, and 'moronity, that crowd around the trotting counsel. It is veripbangint before the act trots and matches come e . go to the mite, or any good position, and wat the promiscuous driving npon trotting ceuree There will always to some very. beautiful "ture•onts"—fine horses, showing elegant style and brilliant action, which It la very well to Bee.
