On board the " Malvern," a ship most fair ;
All painted white, and nice, and clean,
With windows live, and curtained green.
An oil-cloth carpet decks the floor;-
And silver knob upon the door;
A mat outside upon the deck,
Which all who enter must respect.
The next in order conies the press,
It's one of " Adama" very best;
The frame of which is painted green,
It's bed Is twenty by sixteen.
The press being small It's plainly seen—
We do not use the power of steam •
Yet we work it•quick and do It well,
As this before you will plainly tell.
Of type we have some forty cases,
Nicely arranged in their proper place.;
But yet to make the this complete,
They are packed lc tens, in cabinet neat.
We've galleys three: of sticks we've seven,
The shortest four, the longest eleven;
And ink and paper we've on hand,
With leads anti rules at our command.
In fact we've all the stock in trade,
That ever wad for printer made;
grcept it be the loafing gang,
Which generally around an office bang.
Of our politica we will pot say,
For , ao are changing those from day, to day;
But I'll tell you this, your mind to eas,
That we generally believe just what we please
Now, in conclusion, let . me say,

IVileorac to our Soltrfers.--Susquehanna braves !
We welcome you to peaceful homes with feelings of
gratitude and respect, which laugmece fails to de
scribe; realizing that you have nobly acted your
part in the conflict which has been raging so fearful
ly, 'and long. our sympathies have been with you
in the livid; now as yon return to homes secured to
you and us by your privations and sufferings, (mak
ing them doubly dear,) we vainly attempt to portray
to yon the feelings in our hearts, which are too full
(or utterance. Yon hare bravely endured all to save
our country, and it is saved. The ensign of Liberty
to-day, not only proclaims the perpetuation of a Ire,
Government, but Freedom to a race, bidding deli
'ince to traitors. The sacrifice has been great to ac.
complish Ulla. Many a sad heart has been called
upon to mourn the lons of husband, parent, brother,
son or cherished friend. But thanks to the Ruler of
the nations ' they have not fallen in vain. The vic
tory for which they fought has been achieved, al
thotgb they have not lived to see the day, and we
have not the privilege of welcoming than. Time
will not their tnemory efface. "To light in a just
cause and for our country's glory is the best °Mee
of the best of men." flaying the assurance that our
cause was just has buoyed you up mid the conflict
severe. This has been the secret of your patient en
durance, feeling that right would triumph. To none
is the day of pence more welcome than to you who
have so nobly responded to your country's call In
her sour of peril, and have helped to ancbor the old
`Eitip of State in safety. We rejoice with you that
the victory la won ; that the battle-scarred hosts are
bidding adieu to the tented field to enjoy peace and
quietude in their own homes- May traitors learn by
the lesson you barn given theM, that 'tie vain to as

Mr. Ely was one of our oldest and most useful
citizens. He came into this town, (then an entire
wilderness,) from Lyme, N. London Co., Connecti

hardships incident to the settlement of a new coun
try, lived to see the happy results of those toils, in
the improved condition and prospects of society
around him. He was an exemplary member of the
Presbyterian Church nearly filly years. Ile was a
constant attendant on the public worship of God,
and I liberal and steady supporter of the Gospel
He was faithful in all the duties and relations of
life, pleasant and amiable In all his dealings and In•

years.
Through an eventful life the deceased exemplified
her christian faith by patient resignation, great
cheerfulness, and hopeful trust in her God. Of her
it could be truly said, " The heart 1.4 her husband
safely trusted in her while her children rise up and
call her blessed." She suffered intensely during
her last illness, but uttered no complaint, and to the
last was more concerned for the comfort of those
around her than for herself. Her hope in Christ re

smile that rested on her countenance as she passed
