From a letter of a - comrade who, with him, was

" We arrived at Culpepper on the 15th and took
the cars for Lynchburg, where we arrived after tour
days nearly starved, having eaten nothing since we
were captured. After we anived there we were
ci ven half a pound of bread each for twenty four
hours. Thus we lived for ten days, when we were
transferred to Richmond, remained there one night,
and were marched to Belle Island, where we were
kept until the lilth Of October when twenty-one of
us,who were sick, were removed to the city hospi
ta. Hezeklah, I thiek, had the consumption, and
Its progress was hastened by starvation and the na

" Although we had but a short acquaintance, I
found Lim all I could wish In a friend. I do not rec.

his hind mother, but I 6.a." that there was a chord
that sibrated with love when the word Mother was
pronounced.
"He ate nothing for six days before ho died. Ile
