'WESTON, EDITOR MED Elam:molt f* DANIEL R. GOODLOE, Aasirrorr EDITOR. Asufficient time has elapsed since the bourns: tion of Yr. Buchanan, to dispel the boixts es• tertained by many who did not support his election to the Presidency, that his idministration Of affairs would be so moderate and conservative as to give re pose to a country too long agitated by exciting trcol hsions of opinion and interest. On• the contrary; it has been so fur marked by a' violence of measures which id without precedent, even in the administra tion of Kr. Pierce. In Xingu, it has given all its patronage, not mere. ly to a faction, detested by the people of thatlerri tory, but to the most odious men of that faction, _ some,of whom have participated directly in scenes of violence and bloodshed ; -while It has concentrated the entire disposable, army of the United State* at Fort Leavenworth, under the command of a man of known violence of character . , for the-manifest pur pose of intirnidating our fellow-citizens there into sub mission! to a foreign usurpalion, end if intimidation fails, of desolating them with fire and !wand. In foreign affairs, it does not disguise ha purpose to take, immense sums from the Treasury, to be ex pended. in the perchwie of new territories, while it threatens us with complications and wars fatal to commerce, in the sole interest of an institution, deemed temporary and exceptional by the fonder* of our Government, but which now aspires to an eter nity of duration, and to universal dominion. . The ' purpose Buchanan's administration clearly is to keep up the agitation of the slavery question, which was deliberately entered upon as • matter ! of political calculation in 1854, as the ba.sis of a new party then formed to control the destinies of the coentry ; that agitation to which Mr. Buchanan owes , his own election, and to which tliwe Who sur -round-him now . look confidently for., the perpetuation ot. their own power. There are large bodies of our countrymen, in all ' parts of the Union who deplore this organization of a sectional party at the South, bottomed upon the rev olutionary proceedings of 1854, and still maintained by violent acts, npitealieg bisectional passions ; who perceive that it ostracises the moderate and conserva tive portion of the eitiiens of the slaveholding States from participation and influence in public alTan s ; and . who see in this geographical arrangement of parties the greatest dangers of all kinds, including danger to the peculiar institution, the sensitiveness of which is so recklessly appealed to by political gamblers. It is proposed by the undersigned to establish a newspaper at the city of Washington, in which the views of these portions of our countrytnen may be re flected.' This newspaper will be styled The Repub lie, and will endertior to maintain a nationality and comprehensiveness of views worthy. of its name. Esteeming as the most imminent and pressing na tional danger the attempt to maintain a geographical party by pandering to the passions of the slavery propaganda, The Republic will resolutely oppose an dininistration which his determined to perpetuate itself by keeping up a form of party so dangerous and so odiou.s. An inflexible-attachment to the Union; a rever ence for the Cons'itution of the United States, as the dtighest achievement of human wisdom ; a general conformity as to doubtful constructions of the Uon stitutton and as to princitdes of public administration, to theisehool of politics illustrated by the genius o Mr. Jefferson' peace acid justice in our foreign re lations; the consolidatioe of our civilization at home, rather than needless, premature, or dangerous en largements.of territory; i'se dedication of our present public' domain as a tbeat r for the prosperous indust ry of freemen, and, with that view, the prohibition of its triMsfer except in' moderate quantities to actual settlers; such, briefly, are: the principles, feelings, and objects which will giye tone to The RTublic. It will be one of the a.tns of The Republic to co operate in reducing the e xpenditures of; the Govern ment, tvliich have been swollen to seventy millions per annumby the extravagance and corruption of the party in power. The revenues ofof the country are mainly contributed by free laborers, while its dis bursements, of late years; have been made 'with very little reference 0) their ?interests. Public employ ments, military, naval, and civil, have become more and More engrossed by alpeculhtr class which bears , lit:le of the public burdens, and which has thus had a double motive to augMent salaries - and expendi tures.! Thcl publication of Tile Republic will be com mermed in the first sreckof September. The prices and terms of subscription: are given below. It is ex pected that a daily publication will be added, to com mence with the next session of "Congress. The Week ly IlePublic will be printed on a mammoth sheet, 27 by 421 inches. The SetnliWeekly will be printed on a sheet 22 by 31 Daniel R.
