OPINIONS OF THE PRESS

In ronxxxr Isyssrlort.—Foir some fire years. past,
ll r. U. li. SarYth, of Pennsylvania, tnciwof this State)
an ingenious and scientific mechanic, has concentrat;

States, This rnventiou is .known as " Smyth's Self- .
Acting ileut-Li.tver PlattorlE Scale," and as this is
the first publicnotice of this useful and valuable im
.provement, w shall take the liberty:of expressing
Ourselves free! upon its merit& The - platform of the
scale is about-112 by 18 inches, and the whole. wale
is about 8 inches high and weighs entire only about
25 pounds, while it his the extraordinary capacity of
weighing any object from.one ounce to four htutdred
pounds. Its form is compact-and convenient, anti is
applicobleto every purpose for which scales of any
kind are requitled. Under the platfornt and attached
to the lcverag is suspended a weighted arm or

,.
(Winn: : To th s pendulum is attached an indicator,
which, tog,eth r with the . pendulum, the instant any
object is upon the platform mores from its
centre of gravity, to tha point 'lndicating - -the exnet

admits of no hiaccureer or change, and a given. pres

The principle t;eyond doubt is the correct one, and
