'81 The class exercises on Thu sday
afternoon may be regarded as tentl
mony in favor of the efficient teaching
done during the term as well ox of the
fidelity Of the pupils. The Wiutleld
school has a good reputation. The
successful teacher was 1). R. Roth
rock, of Middleburg, Hnyder Co., Pa.,
who by his method of teaching and
his Industry Justly deserves the thanks
and praises of the patrons of the
school. The average attendance dur
ing last month was 53. The number
of visitors during term 102 ; twenty
seven of whom were present Thurs

in the upper end of Dauphin county,
says : "A few days ago a peddler, or
rather a professional tramp, attempt
ed to steal a child, an interesting little
son of Mr. Jacob Matter, residing
about one mile east of this place.
The child was at play a short distance
from the house, on the publie road,
with several companions, when the
trump happened to pas. He took
hold of the little fellow, first persuad
ing htm to go along with hihi and af
terwards compelling hltn to do so.
The' other children informed the
mother of the little boy of what bad
taken place. She Immediately start
ed In pursuit and after proceeding
about a mile, she overtook the scoun
drel, who absconded on perceiving
her, leaving the child In the road to be
recovered by the mother. No effort
was mode, we believe, to arrest the
kidnapper, and this Is to be regretted,
because the country Is running full of
prenteded peddlers, their packs serv
ing merely to gain them entrance In
to the homes of uusuHpecting people.

him has won the esteem of the Heads

less district. Aside from this he has
shown himself one of the foremost

complete self-binding harvesters per
hour, and Will make 20,000 reapers

At her home in Troxelville, on
March 3, Mrs. Sabillu K. Troxell, aged
33 years, II mouths and 14 days.
The deceased was a nutive of
Strausstown, Kerks Co., Pa., born
there Aug. 18, 184V ; and 14 years ago
became the wife of Mr. Isaac N. Trox
ell. Mrs. T. is remembered by her ac
quaintances for her courteous and im
partial sociability ; by many intimate
friends for her kiud hospitality aud
frank yet generous deportment.
' She was devoted to the cause of
Ood and proved it by hard, earnest,
incessant, self sacrificing labor in the
Sabbath services of the congregation,
in the prayer meeting, and in the
Sabbath School ; and when toward
the close of life her frail body, wasted
by consumption, no longer permitted
this, she yearned for the services of
the more beautiful te tuple of Ood on
high.
For nearly two years past the trial
faith seems to have been bodily afflic
tion and family bereavements. Dur
ing this time she found no entire re
lief from the pain In her body through
the many suggestions and prescript
tious of skillful physicians in differaut
parts of the country, and with it, on
March 10, Ml, followed to the grav
at Reading Pa. her father, Micliael M.
