Prothonotary, Snyder County.
MtDkar Sir. Amid the multi
plicity of duties that press upon me
and my professional and political en
gagements; 1 have beeu unable to
write you and though as busy as us
ual at this time, 1 have tuken this
moment to address you upon a mut
ter of personal interest to both of us.
During my visit to your County ou
professional business last year, I
came in cont act with ieople of all
classes, all of them apparently friend
ly but some of w home proved to be
designing persons bent ou abusing the
ordinary civilities of life, and convert
ing them to selfish purpose. To this
end they abused my confidence and
this led to the trouble between you
aud myself. What I said about you
was based upon information derived
from what 1 then believed to be trust
worthy sources, but which I now be
lieve were irresonsible and mislead
ing. I make this statement because It
has been the rule of luy life to muke
acknowledgment of any wrong I may 1
have done any person when I have!
become cognizant of the fuct. In
your case I feel assured that I was I
wrong and I do not hesitate to say so.
This acknowledgment I offer vou with'
the full expectation of answering the
charge you have legally brought
against me at the bar of justice, and
without knowing what dispoidtioa
will be made of the ease, and wit liout
fearing to meet you face to face. You
are at liberty to publish this letter if
you desire because there is nothing
in it of which I need be ashamed and
which I will notstand by lu or out of
Court
Yours truly
W. Y. LYON, Detective.
To the foregoing we would simply
odd, that the letter of exculpation is
Mr. Lyon's voluntary act that every
fair-minded citizen will deem it a fair
vindication from the charge against
hint that he was mislead by designing
men and that we are the more ready
to absolve hhn from Intentional
wrong-doing because he was the vic
tim of misplaced confidence aud un
scrupulous men.
