Tho confevees appointed to nomi
nate a candidate for Assembly for
Union and Snyder Counties, taut at
1he(Mjal Hotel in Sunbury on the
IhI hist. Tho following gentleman
were tho conferees.
Union Dr. I5urg, Scott Clingan
and Henry Slifer.
Snydor Dr. II. T. Wogenseller,
Geo. I. Schoch and J. A Lumbitrd.
Tho meeting was orgauiztsl by se
lecting Dr. Wagonseller Chnirmivn
and Dr. Burg, Socretiry.
J. A. Lombard, nominated Charles
Miller of Snyder.
Scott Clingan nominated Charles
S. Wolf, of Union.
After a number of ballots wcro had,
and as neither party seemed willing
to surrondor their claims, a motion
was offered by J. A. Lumbard, sec
onded by O. I. Sehoeh, to tho effect
that the conferees adjourn to iueet
at the call of tho principles. Disa
greed to.
On Motion of Dr. Burg, seconded
by Mr. Slifer, tho Confereuco ad
jonmod tine die.
We can not see why thnro should
be any difficulty in muling a nomina
tion. We think it no moro than fair that
the nomination should belong to
Union county this year. There is no
man in tho county that would niukoa
bettor member than Mr. Millor, yet
we havoour serious doubt whether
it woidd be policy to insist
upon his nomination at this timo. It
was gonerally understood by tho poo
plo at our Primary election that
Union connty wan entitled to the
member and that the nomination of
Mr. Miller was only to be a matter of
compliment
Trno, Mr. Herrold's conferees had
no right to bind the party in the
manner they did, last year, but they
have done it and wo think we should
stand by it.
- It baa been the custom, heretofore,
to give each member two terms, if he
so desired. Mr. Herrold gave up his
claim (under tlus custom) to Union
county. Snvder county had tho first
member under the new apportion
ment and Union county is entitled to
the second. According to our judg
ment Union county is tmtitlod to the
Domination for the next two years
and after that wo con again clearly
and fairly lay claims to the nomina
tion. We have our doubts wbothor Mr.
Millor is serious in prosecuting bis
claims for tho nomination, under
these circumstances Perhaps it is a
matter of more importance to bis
