On last Monday a week, Wilson Morrison, of New Germantowu, mode cider at Abram Snyder's, near that place. A son of his who was around the mill that crushes the apples,by some means got bis finger in when it was taken entirely - off. The other part of the band was some what bruised. The finger was dressed by Dr. O. Milton Biadileld, and the boy is doing well. Bobbed. The Ilarrisburg Patriot of the 29th ult., says : " While crossing the old portion of the Ilarrisburg bridge between two and three o'clock yesterday morning, on bis " way to York county for a load of produce, Mr. Isaac Slayer, a trucker and produce dealer doing business in this city, was attacked by two ruffians when about midway in the bridge. One of the ruffians seized bis horse by the bit, while the other leveled a revolver at bis bead and demand ed " Your life or your money." Mr. 8. shelled out $10 in greenbacks (all be bad about him), but this did not satisfy the scoundrels. They relieved him of a valua ble silver watch before they left him. Mr. 8. bad no weapon of any kind with which to defend himself. Who Is It I The Mt. Holly Echo says : " On Saturday a farmer whose name we did not learn residing at Stcrrett's Gap, come to Carlisle with a two-horse load of wood. After disposing of his wood be par took too freely of benzine and became a little bewildered. In the evening he start ed for borne but, unfortunately went in the direction of Adams county, passing through this place about 7 o'clock. lie mistook the railroad for the wagon road at Upper Holly and soon . become entangled in' the tressel work across the mill race. Several of our citizens bearing the noise went to his rescue, arriving on the spot just in time to stop the train returning to Carlisle, which was running at a lively rate of speed, thus preventing a terrible accident, The men by strenuous efforts succeeded in get ting the team off the track. The drunken man was taken to the Holly boarding bouse to sober up, and on Sunday morning be was given bis team and sent on bis way re joicing. The horses were slightly injured about the legs. Queer' Conduct. A Newburg corres pondent of the Oakville Enterprite says : " A certain young man from the country, on last Saturday evening, made bis way quietly to the back porch of a house in town, ' where he was detected by the lady of the house, and asked bis business there. This caused the young man to beat a hasty retreat," an4 ,io . attempting to jump the paling fence his foot caught and he fell back, with one foot fast in the fence, where he was hanging when 'Squire Peebles came along, and assisted him in getting loose, whereupon be retreated back into the gar den and sought shelter in an outhouse. After short rest he began to break down . the fence, but being intercepted by 'Squire Peebles, he made bis way over a six foot fence and left ' town. It seems the young man was bunting up the residence of a young lady and bad with his tangled feet got into the wrong yard.. ,. , A Queer Wether. We noticed a day or two ago the fact that a little child, about two yam old, was found on the track of the iiiiladelphia and Reading Railroad, below Manayunk tunnel, and rescued by a a gentleman, and returned to its mother. On the same flay, in the afternoon, , says the Pottstown Ledger, an engine and ten der from the Perkiotnen Railroad was go ing to Richmond for repairs, and at the same place discovered the same child, sit ting" between the tracks,' leaning upon one of the rails. The engineer found be could not stop bis engine lit time to prevent the child from being run over, and fortunately just as be expected the wheels to crush the babe, a woman appeared ujwu the ground aud suddenly removod tlief child to a place of safety. The locomotive had scaroelv passed hip before the woman placed t batk io tame position oa the rails as it was before the passage of the engine. The Osceola Reveille says ; "A young lady named Baito was accidentally shot with a revolver, and instantly killed, on Tuesday the 22nd ult., at the house of Daniel Elino, son of Dr. Kline who resides in our town. Mr. Daniel Kline bad a " log rolling" on that day, and as usual on such occasions, nearly all the neighbors, far and near, assembled to as sist. Among others, Miss Barto bad called to remain during the day, and iu company with Mr. Kline's little daughter, went up stairs to get a piece of toilet soap that she was told she would find in the pocket of a coat .belonging to a young man named Kline. In attempting to remove the arti cles she was in search of, her band came in coutact with a revolver, which she drew partly.out of the pocket, but the hammer caught fast in some way, preventing her from removing the pistol, aud while in the act of looking into the ' barrel, perhaps to ascertain if it was loaded, her band slightly relaxed, and the hammer having been partly sprung, came down with sufficient force to explode the cap. . The pistol was, of course discharged, aud the ball took effect above one of her eyes, killing her in stantly. Burned to Death. On Monday after noon as Job "Walter and wife, of Snyder county were taking out potatoes, ' leaving the house in possession of their children, one a littlo girl about 4 years of age, got too close to the stove, when . ber . clothes took fire burning them entirely from her, with the exception of a small band arouud ber body. Her arms, face and breast were fearfully burned, and she suffered the most excruciating pain, until about 13 o'clock on Monday night when death re lieved the poor child from its intense suffering..- . Hand Tom Off. Near Phillpsburg, on Thursday evening last, a sad accident oc curred to a yonng Englishman named Geo. Wait. In company with another young man, he was guuning, and in returning, about seven o'clock in the evening, w hen about half a mile from towu, he attempted to discharge his gun, which burst just be tween his left band and shoulder, tearing the hand almost entirely off at the wrist. It is to be made by dividing Beaver townsmp. - On Tuesday night last Mr. John Jones, of Newport, while getting out of bed, by some moans fell and hurt his hip in such a manner that he has boen confined to bed ever since. This occurred at the residence of Mr. John B.Meredith, in this borough, whore Mr. J. now is under the care of Dr. Strickler. Cumberland County. From the Cum berland county papers of last week, we copy the following : A strange accident happened to a horse belonging to 11. Haxton & (Jo. The colored man who attended to the animal, on open ing the stable door, yesterday morning, found the horse on his back with his left hind foot in his mouth so tight that it was impossible to got it out until two teeth were extracted. The poor brute bad suf fered dreadfully, for be must nave been in this condition nearly all night. Afler his foot had boen taken from bis mouth the the horse was quite sick for some time, but soon recovered and, took bis oats as usual. Volunteer. An epidemio is prevalent among the bogs iu Silver Spring township, which has caused considerable loss to the farmers and others. Mr. Samuel liricker lost all bis hogs ; Mr. Jones, living on Mr. Saxton's farm, has two left out or thirty-eight ; Mr. Williams Parker, Curtis Gipple, John and Jacob Gross, Mr. Gensler, on Mr. Wolford Herman's farm, have each lost from 10 to SO bogs. The disease now seems to be on the decline. On Tuesday afternoon, whilst Hiram Smiley (son of Rev. J. M. Smiley), of this place, was playing with a number of other scholars, at the New School House, he was thrown violently to the ground, fracturing the right arm above and below the elbow joint.
