which every voter of the town was assessed,
and, calling on Mr. D., the blacksmith, one
day, be said : "I have a small bill against
you." "And for what?" " For ireach

have beard none of your preaching." "The
fault Is your own," said Mr. II. " The
doors have been open, and you might have
come in.". Not loDg after, as Mr. II. was
one day passing the blacksmith shop, Mr.
D., hailing him, said : " I have a small
bill against you." "And what for t" said
Mr. II. "For shoeing your horse," replied
Mr. D. " For shoeing my horse? I have
hod no horse shod here," said Mr. H. '"The
fault is your own,,' replied Mr. D. " The
doors have been open, and you might have
come in." Mr. II. paid the bill.

of a hexagon, or six square The novelty
of the structure attracted the attention of
some Irishman who were passing by ; they
stopped and viewed tho building very crit
ically. The lawyer, somewhat disgusted at
their curiosity, lifted up the window, put
his head out, and addressed them :

blockheads, gazing .at my office ; do you

knowing it to be such," said Smithers, with
out a smile.

ner, when the waiter presented a bill of
fare, the young man inquired "What's
that?" "That's a bill of fare," said the
waiter. The countryman took it in bis
hands, looked inquiringly at his wife, and
then at the waiter, and Anally dove down
into his pocket and in'siuuatiugly inquired,
"How much is it?"
MP Little Billy was very cross and tired
the other night, and be wanted his father
to take him on his knee ; but father was
tired, or pretended to be. " I want you to
hold me on yourknoe," he whined. "I tell
you I cannot do It, I am tired," replied his
father, impatiently. "Tired ! You wasn't
very tired last night when you hold Mary
on your knee in the kitchen."
