A Coroner 8oId.
An excited individual, with his hat Btand

from his bead like the horns of a snail,
rushed into the office of Coroner Holmes.
The coroner is by profession a dentist, and
his first thought, as be glanced at the man, '
was that he was well-nigh distracted with
toothache., lie was soon undeceived, how
ever, as the frenzied Individual cried out,
as soon as be could catch bis breath after
running up Btairs :
" Been a man murdered 1"
" A man murdered 1" cried tbo coroner.
"How where?"
" In the garding, I believe with a club
or a rock."
"How long ago?" cried the coroner,
seizing his hat and cine.

With a, loud guffaw the fellow went

" How dare you trifle with an officer in
this way, sir?" '
t3?Anice young man in Dos Moines

and kindled a fire. When hanging on tbe
kettle be made a noise on purpose to
arouse bis wife. She peeped over the
blanket and ezolaimed :
"My dear, what are you doing?"
He deliberately responded :
" I'v put on my last clean shirt, and I'm
going to wash one for myself."
" Very well," replied she, " you had bet

Conversation between an inquiring-
stranger and a steamboat pilot : "That is

was seen to approach the pantry, and over
heard singing !.;..
