No housekeeper should bo without a bottle of Rpirits of ammonia, for, besides its medicinal valuo, it is invaluable for household purpose. I If is nearly as useful as soap, and its choapuess brings it within the reach of all. Put a toaspoonful of am monia to a quart of warm soap-Buds, dip in a flannel cloth, and wipe off the dust and fly specks, grime and smoke, and see for yourselves how much labor it will save. No scrubbing will be needful. It will cleanse and brighten silver wonderfully j to a pint of hot soap-suds mix a teaspoonful of the spirits, dip in your silver spoons, forks, etc., rub with a brush, and then pol ish on chamois skin. For washing mirrors and windows it is very desirable, put a few drops of ammonia upon a piece of newspaper aud you will readily take off ovory spot or finger mark on tho glass. It will take out grease spots from every fabric ; put on the ammonia nearly clear, lay blotting paper over the place aud press a hot flat iron on it for a few moments. A few drops in water will clean laces and whiten them as well ; also muslins. Then it is a most refreshing agent' at the toilet table ; a few drops in a basin of water will make a better bath than pure water, and if tho skin is oily it will remove all glossiness and disagreeable odors. Added to a foot-bath it entirely absorbs all noxious smell so often arising from the feet in warm weather, and noth ing is better for cleansing the hair from dandruff and dust. For cleaning hair and nail brushes it is equally good. Put a tea spoonful of ammonia into one pint of warm water, and shake the brushes through the water. When the brushes look white rinse them in cold water, and put them in the sunshine, or in a warm place to (Try. The dirtiest brushes will come out of tbis bath white and clean. For medicinal pur poses ammonia is almost unrivaled. For the headache it is a desirable stimulant, aud frequent inhaling of its pungent odors will often entirely remove catarrhal cold. There is no better remedy for heartburn and dyspepsia, and the aromatic spirits of ammonia is especially prepared for these troubles. Ten drops of it in a wine glass of water are often a relief. The spirits of ammonia can be taken in tho same way ; but it is not as palatable. In addition to all those uses, the effects of ammonia on vegetation are beneficial. If you desire roses, geraniums, fuschias, &c, to become more flourishing, you can try it upon them by adding livo or six drops of it to every pint of water that you give them, but don't repeat the dose ofton er than once in ever five or six days, lest you stimulate them too highly. Rain water is impregnated with ammonia, and thus it refreshes and vivifies vegotablo life. Ho be sure and keep a large bottle of it in the house, and have a glass stopper, for it is very evanescent and also iujurious to corks, eating them away. Colors iu Clothing. - The color of clothing is by no means a matter of indifference. White and light colored clothes reflect the beat, while black and dark colored ones absorb it. White is the comfortable and fashionable color for clothing in Summer. It refleots beat well, and prevents the sun's rays from passing through and heating the body. If white is the best color for Hummer, it does not fol low that black is the best for Winter. It must be remembered that black radiates beat with great rapidity. Give a coat of white paint to a black steamradiator, which ii capable of rendering a room comfortably warm at all times,' and the temporature will fall at once, though the beat-producing agency remains the same as .before. A black garment robs tho body of a larger amount of heat than white, and, conse quently, the latter color is the best for Winter garments. It is the best color for both Summer aud Winter. Although this statement may seem like blowing hot and cold, it is nevertheless true. Let those -who are troubled with cold feet, and who wear dark socks, change to whlto, and see if the difficulty is not in part or wholly removed. Utility in color is confined to the different shades merging from dark into light, but we find in connection with dress all the beautiful tints of the rainbow, and these are used for the ornamentation of the person. The rich and varied colors which are so extensively worn are by no means to be condemned. Adornment of the person to a reasonable extent is commendable. We all love the beautiful iu nature ; and what adds so much to the attractiveness of woman as the ribbons and scarfs stained with magenta, mauve, or solferino, which adorn her person? Tea Cakes. A quart of flour, one pint of tour cream, teaspoonful saleratus, two cups of molasses, little cinnamon and salt, make a stiff paste, and bake in a moderate oven. Dr. J. Walker's California Vin egar JJitters aro a purely Vegotablo preparation, mailo cbictly from tho na tivo herbs found on tho lower ranges of tho Sierra Novada mountains of Califor nia, tho medicinal properties of which aro extracted therefrom without tho uso of Alcohol. In their treatment, a purgative, exerting a pow erful influence upon theso various or gans, is cssontially necessary. Thoro is no cathartio for tho purpose equal to Dr. J. Walker's Vinegar Bitters, as thoy will speedily remove the dark colored viscid matter with which tho bowels aro loaded, at the same timo stimulating tho secretions of the liver, and generally restoring tho healthy functions of tho digestive organs. Fortify the body against disease by purifying all its fluids with Vinegar Bitters. No epidemic can take hold of a system thus fore-armed. Tin, Tape, and other Worms, lurking in the Bystom of so many thousands, are effectually destroyed and removed. Ho system of medicine, no vermifuges, no an thelmintics will free the system from worms like these Bittors. For Female Complaints, in young or old, married or single, at the dawn of wo manhood, or tho turn of life, these Tonio Bittors display so decided an influence that improvement Is soon porceptiltlo. Cleanse the Vitiated Mood when ever you find Its impurities bursting through the skin in Pimples, Eruptions, or Sores; cleanse it when you find it obstructed ana sluggish in the veins ; cleanse it when it is foul : your feelings will tell you when.
