tho Junction, some of which weighed over

' Ail Accident. On Saturday last ns Rev,
Mr. Crawford was driving along in Juniata
twp., accompanied by bis wife, his horse
stumbled and fell, throwing out both oc
cupants and breaking tho shaft and dashor
of tho buggy. Mr. Crawford escaped all

tuuato though her injuries were slight.
2Ann Broken. On Tuesday morning,
while- a son of .Mrs. L. Shearer, a lad of
-about eight years, residing in Duncannon
was playing with some companions in front
of tho new school building, ho attempted
to jump from the top of tho limo house,
l)tit his foot caught in a shingle, and he full
to the ground, breaking one of his arms
above tho wrist. Dr. Gwartz adjusted the
fracture and tho lad is doing well.
Lois of Hats. County mcrchats wanting
a good assortment of Hats and Caps to
select from, will do well to call on Messrs
Barnes, Brother & Horron, C03 Market St,.
Philadelphia. They will find Mr. D. Tort
Bcalo so well and favorably known to tho

pared to show them through tho stock and

filling of their orders.
X-Badly Injured. On Tuesday, a little
fivo-year old daughter of Mr. Wm. Mc
Murray, while on the veranda of tho Na
tional House, by somo means or other full

striking her forehead on a sharp stone
inflicting a severe wound and producing a
slight concussion of the brain. Although
the child's injury is dangerous, still it is
not considered fatal, and tho attending
physician has hopes of her early recovery.
Duncannon Record.
A Foolish Brakcinau. Sometime during
Monday afternoon a brakesman named
Lindsey, in the employ of the Pennsylvania
railroad company, jumped upon an engine
standing on the track in the yards of tho
above company, and began to "fool" with
the throttle valve. The ougiue got away
with him, running up the track and col
liding with another engine, at or near the
stock yards, doing great damage to both
machines. Tbo stupid follow after the
mischief was done, leaped olT the engine
and bid in corn field.
The company will probably dispense with
bis services in future.
About School Teaching. One of our
city contemporaries has an item about
school teaching, and mentions that an
irate fathor, in its locality does not approve
of the system in vogue. Ho declares that
it is making candidates for tho iusane
asylum, and piling up a heap of misery in
' many forms. Ho desires that there should
be reasonable Hogging in schools, begin
ning with the teacheis. Ono thing which
especially rouses his wrath is tho way in
which tired parents are forced to teach
their sleopy children, during tho evening,
the lessons which they go to school tho
next day merely to recite. Ho demurs,
and with reason, at doing the mental
drudgery for which he liberally pays others
who are purposely fitted for it. Parents
are complaining bitterly of tho studying at
homo to which their children are forced,
on pain of falling below their classes. No
father wants to teach school during his
leisure hours, and no child should be com
pelled to spend so much of the day in brain,
work. Fewer studios and strict discipline
In the schools would make sufficient time
for memorizing of lessons at the desk. . It
is tho great fault of our school system that
it demands that children should occupy
themselves with more studies at oue time
than they are able intellectually to master.
They are crowded ahead too fast. They
should have a reasonable amount of time
for reercatiou. This subject is worthy of
serious thought by parents and teachers
everywhere.

Street services were held on last
Sabbath at tho corner of West and South

was present, wiio took an interesting part
in tho sorvices. Addresses were delivered
by Rev. J. W. Siniloy, Rev. J. B. Soule
and John Miller. Sorvices will bo held
next Sabbath on the corner of Louther and
Bedford streets, commencing at 0 o'clock.
A horso attached to a new spring wagon
belonging to Josoph Schraudonbach, baker,
frightened while standing in front of his
residenco on Friday morning last, and
dashed off up Bedford street at a furious
rate of speed. When about mid-way be
tween North and Louther streets tho wag
on struck a large tree and was demolished.
At this point the horse freed himself from
tho wagon, and continued his flight up
Bedford to Main, and up Main to a small

That Favorite Home Remedy,
PA I N -KILLER
Has been bofore the public over Thirty Tears,
and probably has a wider and better reputation
than any other proprietary medicine of tho
present day. At this period there are but few
unacquainted with the merits of the FAIN
KILLER but, while some extol it as a lini
ment, tbey know but llttlo of Its power In eas
ing pain when taken internally ( while othors
use it Internally with great success, but are
equally Ignorant of Its healing virtues when
applied cxtornally. We therefore wish to say
to all, that it 1b equally successful, whether
used internally or externally. It is sufficient
evidence of Us virtues as a standard medicine
to know that It Is now used la all parts of tho
world, and that its sale is constantly increas
ing. No cnratlve agent has had such a wide
spread salo or given such universal satisfac
tion. DAVIS' PAIN-KILLER Is a purely vegeta
ble compound, prepared from the best and
purest materials, ana with a care that insures
the most perfect uniformity In the medicine)
and while it is a most effective remedy for pain,
it is a perfectly safe medicine, even In the most
unskilful hands.
It is eminently a FAMILY MEDICINE ; and
by being kept ready for Immediate resort, will
save many an hour of suffering, and many a
dollar In lime and doctor's bills.
After over thirty years' trial, It Is still receiv
ing the most nnquallllcd testimonials to Its vir
tues, from persons of tho hi'heat character and
responsibility. Eminent Physicians commend
It as a most effectual preparation for the ex
tinction of pain. It is not only the best reme
dy ever known for Bruises, Cuts, Burns, &e.,
but for tho Dysentery, or Cholera, or any sort
of bowol complaint, it is a remedy unsurpassed
for cfiicloncy, and rapidity of action. In the
great cities of India, and other hot climates, It
has become tho standard medicine for all such
complaints, and other kindred disorders. For
Coughs and Colds, Canker, Asthma, and Rheu
matic difficulties, It has been proved by the
most abundant and convincing testimony to bo
an invaluable medicine.
Wo would caution the public against all Imi
tations of our preparation, cither in name, or
style of putting up.
