Sutcll, Esq., has been elected a Justice of the Peace in this borough, to fill the vacancy occasioned by the death of John II. Bhuler, Esq. lie will be commis sioned for live years. x The Rain of Saturday raised the streams to an alarming extent. The only damages, wo have yet had reported was tho carrying away of some fences. For a timo it was feared that the bridge on Carlisle Street, in this borough would bo carried away, but towards night tho rain ceased aud tho wa ter, and fears for the safety of tho bridge subsided. At Ickesburg, tho water came down from tho mountain in such force, that the streets and sidewalks were flooded, aud cellars and lower floors in some cases were under water. The Legislature. Among the legislative proceedings last week, we find that tho fol lowing bills of local interest were introduced and favorably reported from tho committee: To change the maximum rate of road tux in tho township of Toboyne, Perry county. To prevent cattle, horses, sheep and hogs from running at large in Wheatliold twp., Perry county. To require the commissioners of Perry county to pay Michael Ilartzel, contractor, for making a certain road in Howe town ship, said county, as committed. A bill to prevent hogs running at largo in tho county of Perry, has also been intro duced in the legislature. -Railroad Accident. There was a collis ion of two freight trains, opposite Liverpool on Friday evening, about 0 o'clock. One fireman was burnt into a crisp. The two engineers aud two other persons were se riously, but it is supposed, uot fatally in jured. It is reported that the fireman that was killed, resided at Marysvillo. The down train was loaded with coal, the up train with dry goods, &c. The cars took Are and nearly all the cars going northward were destroyed with their con tents. There is a sidcing at Millersburg and one also opposite Liverpool. It ap pears that tho conductor of the train going northward wanted to reach the Liverpool sidoing, and the conductor southward wanted to make the , Millersburg sideing. Between them they tried to pass each othor on a single track, and the above is tho result. llonitny. A superior quality of Hominy can be bought at F. Mortimer's. Railroad Assessment. Tho Coniniis. sioners of the Duncanuon, Bloomliold and Loysville railroad, are pushing along the ' work of organization as fust as due regard to the requirements of the law will allow. Notice is now given to subscribers, to come forward and pay the first assessment of (5, ou each share. As soon as that notice is complied with, so that a return to that effect can be made to the Governor, the Letters I'atcnt can be obtained, and. a meeting will be called for the electiou of a board of Directors. The more prompt, the notice of the commissioners is complied with, the sooner the company can be organ. ized and work began, and it is highly im portant that work should be commenoed as early in the season as possible. In the meantime we urge upon friends of the en terprise, the necessity or securing more subscriptions, so that there may be no de lay in prosecuting the work as soon as the board of directors has been elected. There is not a man between Duncannon and Germantown, who will not be more or less benefitted by the making of this road, and we' trust that proper regard to their own interests will prompt them to give the en. terprlse a liberal support. There are per sons in every community who are willing to be benefitted at other people's expense, but we hope tlrfcre are not many such In ' our county. John Wistor, Esq., of Duncannon, Is the Treasurer to the Commissioners but those who cannot conveniently pay the assess ment now due to him, can pay it to W. W. McClure, ' Esq., at Oreenpark, or to Mr, . John II. Bboibley, or F. Mortimer, at Bloomfield. ' Church Notices. In the M. E. Church preaching on Bun day morning next.
