Agricultural Organizations.
Farmers organize 1 is the watchword of
to-day, all over our beautiful country,
"the Farmers' Club In almost every thickly
settled neighborhood, are all doing a good
, work, developing crude ideas and sugges
ting experiments. The county Agricultu
ral Societies holding their annual fairs In
almost every couuty, are making rapid
strides in improvement of the stock and
erops.
The State Agricultural Societies are also
working a revolution in the fine stock in
terest, the improvement of farms and crops
and the introduction of improved farm ma
chinery. Within the past year or two the " Pa
trons of Husbandry" a national organi
zation has been organized in various sec
tions of the country, and is destined to
elevate the profession of the farmer, and
make them a power in the land that will be
folt by monopolies. .
The Agricultural Congress composed of
the best men of the nation, is making the
profession of farming of the first national
importance, developing theories, and adopt
ing plans looking to the improvement of
the agricultural interests of the country.
Think of the incalculable good that is
now being done evory year by this array
of Agricultural organizations.
Farmer, Organize, and keep up your or
ganizations, attend your meetings, consult
' with each other, for the contest will now
commence between the monopolies, and
these organizations that represent, your
best financial interost. Heretofore there
has been no contost ; the farmers, single
handed, were subject to all the Impositions
of the sharpers and monoi-olists.
Farmer; organize in defiance of political
leagues. You have the papers- all over the
country at your command. Let these pa
pers be your organs. Give them your sup
port, and they will stand by yon through
every contest.
.' Comfort for Tea-drinkers. . '
In the life of most persons a period ar
rives when the stomach no longer digosts
enough of the ordinary eloments of food to
make up for natural daily waste 6f the
bodily sustenance. ' The size and weight of
the body begin to diminish more or loss
perceptibly. ' At this time tea comes in as
a medicine to arrest the waste, and to keep
the body from fulling away so fast, and thus
enables the less euorgetio powers of diges
tion still to supply as much as is needed to
repair the wear and tear of the solid tissue
No wonder therefore, that tea should be
the favorite, on the one hand, with the
poor, whoso supply of substantial food is
scanty, and on the othor with the aged and
infirm, especially of the feebler sex, whose
powers of digestion and whoso bodily sub
stance have already begun" to fail.' . Nor is
it surprising that the aged female, who has
barely enough of weekly income to buy
what are called the necessaries of lifo,
should Hpend a portion of her gains in pur
chasing herself an ounce of tea. She can
live quite as well on loss common food,
when she takes her tea along with it, while
she fuels lighter, at the same time more
cheerful and fitter for her work, because of
the indulgence.
Cut Worms. . i
An exchange says : "It is very annoy.
ing aftor having set out a nice lot of sweet
potatoes or oabhage plants, to see them cut
down one by one by cut worms. We have
tried ashes, lime, soot, and in fact every
thing we have ever heard of, but never
found anything ellectual, until by accident,
we found three or four of the worms gath
ered one morning ajindor a small board
which hud beon left by some children on a
sweet potato hill. Acting upon this hint,
we placed small pieces of board, large
chips, etc., all through the patch, and we
trapped them by hundreds. ' Tho boards
must he lifted early in the morning, and on
very warm days about noon.' A little cure
for a few days will clear these posts out of
tho garden. One triul will satisfy any per
son of the merits of this plan,"
t2TTho Scientific Fross quotes tho testi
mony' of a gentleman in Sun Francisco,,
with regard to the value of fresh eggs in
affording nourishment to weak animals,
lie remarked that he had known a young
colt' which to all appearances, was nearly
dead,' the breath of life ' being barely per
ceptible, to be quite ( instantly revived by
giving it one or two fresh eggs. The same
result, in ' several ' Cases to w lilcll tie was
knowing, have,, followed the administering
of eggs to weak calves, and also to feeble
and chilled lambs. A remedy so simple so
easy at hand and so effectual in the cases
mentioned which ofert occur with calves
and lambs should be remembered by our
readers. ' " ' '" ' ' '
