To Wean a Colt. It is not ncccsary nor even desirable that in weaning, tlio colt (should bo removed from the mare. It is a good plan to have 4 closed stall or Tiox for her colt next to each maro's stall. She can then commu nicate in her own way with hor colt, and will not bo no uneasy as bIio would bo were It removed out of sight, nor will tlio colt duller in any way. Care roust bo taken to give the colt water four tiiiios a day, and feed with the best of tlio early-cut hay, and gradually a few oats, a handful at a feed at first, until a pint twice a day is fed. Colts must bo kept thriving if a good liorso is wanted. The curry-comb must be used, but gently; the young animal bo caressed mid taught not to fear but to love its ownor; to become used to the various movmcnts made around tlio stable, and the various articles contained therein. It should bo taught "to lead" now, if this has beon neglected up to this time. If there is any danger of the mare becoming troubled with oxcess of milk, it must be drawn from her, and dry feed bo given lier until nil danger Is past. When she is quite dry tlio colt may take exercise with her, but previous to this it will be better in tho stable. Slewed Oyslers. Wo suppose that nine out of ton house keepers will contradict us point blank, in a abatement that, nine out of ten of them do not know how to cook a dish of oysters. By tho ordinary routine, that nearly every ono follows, either the oysters are stewed And shriveled out of all resemblance of themselves in shnpc.sizc, and llavor, or else the soup "thickening" lias a raw tasto that spoils it. Hero is the right method; try it once, and we'll warrant you won't need telling tho second time: Pick tho oysters out of the juico with a fork, as dry AS possible; stew the juice, thickening with tho milk, of which the soup is to bo made, until thoroughly cookod; then drop tho oysters in, and just as the cooled soup begins to show signs of simmering, empty tfut altogether, and you will have a rich rtoup and plump oysters, luscious enough to make you tliiyk you never tasted real oysters. How Bees Ventilate, liees live in close houses, without a window, and with but one door. They need to breathe, they do not like poison, And they aro not lazy. You may hear a constant humming or fanning in tho hive if you bend down your car to listen. Thcro 4a a strong steady draught of air going on wi i bin, so that a piece of thistle-down is blown away from the door. A row of steady, industrious bees are flapping their wings backward and forwards without a moment's pause, holding on the floor with their feet, and as they tiro, others supply thwir place, for ventilation is part of tho regular work of that well ordered home. A Wrinkle about the Age of Horses. Tho following information to ascertain tlio ago of a horse, after it has passed tho ninth year, is quite new to us, and will be to tho most of our readers. After tho liorso is nine years old, a wrinklo comes on tho eyelid, at the upper corner of tho lower lid, and every year thereafter ho has ono well defined wrinkle for each year of his age over nine. If for instance, a liorso has three wrinkles, he is twelve. Add the number of wrinkles to nine, and you will always get at his ago. t'2T My experienoo in leached ashes for sweet potatoes the past year has taught mo that there is no better feitilizer for sweet " potatoes than leached ashes, even on very iwoi' soil. The ashes are placed in furrows oovercd with soil, and the potatoes planted thereon. My crop was most cxcollont, where, without the allies, I could hardly havo mads any. Soil, sandy loam. W. B.
