t3T William Wilson, of Howard county,
Tnd., slaughtered a bog, which weighed,
dressed, one thousand and ninety-two
pounds three ounces, and wants to know
who can beat it.
' A Sioux City swell was on the point
of saluting some ladies when to bis fit most

their feet. Their surprise and his confu
sion may well be imagined.
tW A disgraceful prize fight took place
in Hyde Park, on the day before Christmas.

combatants, named Michael Quinn, stabbed
his adversary in thn right eye, ending the
light in a general row.
EEP At East Arlington, Vt., on Christ
mas day, a fight took place in a drinking
saloon, and the two proprietors, Farwcll
and Lawrence, shot five persons, two of
whom hrve since died. Two others are
not expected to recover.
jy Wmi Dennis, was arrested recently
in New York, for forcibly abducting, chlo
roforming and otherwise abusing a young
school girl. One Madame Florence was
also arrested as au accessory. Both wero
held in $5,000 bail for trial.

anapolis. A well, the water in which has
been of a remarkable coldness, has been
growing warmer, and is now almost hot.
The inferonce is that the city ts rapidly
growing worse and worse, and consequent
ly the infernal regions are approaching.

deep in a triple collln, the outer ono being
of two-inch oak, securely spiked. These
precautions were taken to insure a quiet
rest and immunity from artificial resur
rection. t3T"A mouse in Belfast, Maino, was
found the other day frozen stiff upon a
hammer. Investigation showed that in
picking up something that lay upon the
iron bead of the hammer, the tong of the
mouse had frozen to it, and being unable
to get away, it had died.
tW The Supreme Court of Massachusetts
has finally decided that suicido is not a
crime known to tho laws of the Common,
wealth. This opinion is given in tho case
of The State vs. Dennis. Persons wishing
to commit suicide will of course govern
themselves accordingly, and need have no
fear of the law.
1ST On Sunday evening last, at Atlantic
city a large bloodhound, kept in the stable
of Mr. Charles H. Rogers, of the Alaska
hotel, was kicked by ono of the horses.
The dog turned upon tho horse, killed him
and then proceeded lcisnrly to cat him un.
In the morning thegj was very littlo left of
the horso, and tho dog had to be shot.
t2TMr. Samuel Gordon, of Tuftonbor
ough, n. II., found a flno two-year old
colt dead in the pasture, and supposed that
some natural cause brought its life to an
end. His wife dreamed that she saw a man
shoot it, but the husbaud pooh-poohed the
idea as the result of indigestion. The wifo
finally had to bo satisfied by having tho
animal examined, and it really proved that
some one had shot it.
Dr. C. J. Smith, of I'liiliidilnl,
was burned to death on Sunday night about
l o ciock ut a hotel at Mount Carbon
where he had gono on Saturday. Tiio ser
vant girl while goinir to the callai- to 1n
some coal oil, tripped and Ml, sotting fire
to her dress.
While Dr. S. was extinguishing hcrdiiss
the oil ignited and exploded, injuring him
so severely that ho died on Christmas morn
ing. The hotel was burned to the ground.

store of Geo. W. Russel in Oth street I'hila.
Mr. Ilussol and several of his assistants wore
busy showing goods, one party having tho
tray containing diamond rings. Whilo they
were looking at them, a man opened the
door and grabbed the tray and placed it un
der his coat and made his estaixj though
closely pursued for several blocks, In his
haste he dropped about $000 worth on the
floor, but secured over $1,000 by his daring
attempt.
