XW John Taclior, of BtisRing Mountain,
Dutchess county, was recently tarred and
feathered on tho chargo of running away
with another man's wife.
C3FA Michigan youth recently interview
ed ft rattle snake, and afterwards partook
of a compound of whisky, lard and gun
powder for his health.
' An old colored woman in Albany,
last week, died suddenly from fright at the
choking of a child in her chargo, who had
swallowed a knob from a teapot lid.
tW A man named Johnson, of Guilford
township, Hendricks county, Ind., has liy
dicphobic fits, during which ho manifests
nil symptoms of rabies. In his lucid inter
val, ho is perfectly well. Years ngo ho was
bitten by a dog supposed to bo rabid.
C3TA hardworking but poor German
fai lner, in Livingston, county, Missouri,
whoso farm was advertised for salo for debt,
in spito of all his industry and economy,
still plowed and toiled, and a fow days ago
dug up a box containing over $1,700 in
gold.
EST Tho Etio, Ta., Republican has this
queer item : A couple of gentlemen who
were passing through East Park the other
evening saw a woman taking a bath in the
fountain. Tho keeper of tho Park was in
formed of tho transaction, and put a stop
to it.
ESA little daughter (aged 7) of Sylvester
Routherland, of Milo, Illinois, distinguished
herself by repelling a burglar a Sunday or
two since. Her parents were at church, and
the was in charge of tho houso and of tho
other children. A mau tried to get in at a
window, and tho littlo miss beat him off
with a broomstick.
tW A long-standing feud between two
Irishmen in N. Y.,ono Bn Orangeman and tho
other a Iiibbonman, culminated recently in
an attempt by tho latter to poison tho wearer
of tho Orange,with Paris green, which was
surreptitiously placed in his milk-can. Tho
injured man, Bennett, is in a critical condi
tion. C3F"Mrs. Stanton is called upon to solve
a new problem : Miss Smith was married to
Mr. Jones, recently, while sho held tho
offlco of postmistress. Tho question is,
" Who held tho ofllce after the ceremony
was performed ? Certainly not Miss Smith,
for there no longer was a Miss Smith ; and
certainly not Mrs. Jones, for no such post
master was known to tho department."
C3T At Rutland, Vt., William A.' Hall
committed suicido on tho 1st Inst., by sev
ering tho jugular vein with a pocket-kuifo.
Ho was the victim of a black-mailing op
eration, which drove him to tho commission
of tho rash act. One of tho black-mailers,
named Patch, has been arrested. Tho vic
tim being well-known, the affair creates
much excitement.
tW A lad living near Winona, Minn., on
Sunday last left his younger brothor asleep
in tho field. Ho was recalled by his cries, and
found that a bluo racer snake had crawled
up his pantaloons nnd coiled itself around
luBbody. The brave littlo fellow caught
the snake near its head and held it till his
parents came and relieved his brother, who
was almost in convulsions with terror.
' A woman named Session was found
by the police, in the streets of Pittsburg,
carrying under her shawl a dead baby. On
being arrested she said that tho mother,
Rose Taylor, had no money to bury tho
child, and that she was taking the body
for her to the Sisters of Charity. Invosti
gatson showed that she had told the truth,
and she was released. The coroner took
charge of the corpse for tlm interment.
t3f A boy Ave years old went to a house
in Detroit a few days ago, said that he was
from Chicago, that his parents were both
dead and that be would like to have a homo.
He looked neat and intelligent, and tho
family decided to adopt him. ' Three days
after, when he showed himself in tho
front yard for the first tlmo, he was soon
and claimed by his mother, who lived a few
blocks away, and who hud hunted the city
over for the lad. : i
tW Mrs. Van Ilannon revived in Mon
tana, the other day, the memories of our
Revolutionary dames. Left alone in hor
cabin, alio was startled by the approach of
three Cheyennes, and had hardly time to
bolt the door when the Indians flung them
selves against It. Sending hor children into
the cellar, the heroics young woman seized
a revolver and gun, and confronted the
Indians at the open window. The redskins
were finally driven off, after firing the barri

young man was sentenced to kiss a girl,
and he went for "her. She struggled of
course, to prevent him, although she want
ed him o kiss her the worst way, but we
all know how it is,.. In the strugglo that
ensued he backed her against a window,
breaking it, and lots of pieces of glass cut
her shoulder, when she fainted and bod to
bo carried home on a plank. ' Jt is the best

a man, when they will always feel better
than to lave pains (of glass stuck lit their
