Teal, suspected of tho murder,havo recently
lccn arrested in Arkansas and taken to
Georgia for trial.

a pistol and said, " lookout I may shoot
you." Hardly had tho word been spoken
before the pistol wont off, tho ball entering
tho neck and produceing death in a few
hours.
C3TTho family of Mr. Richard Cook,
comprising six persons, wero poisoned at
Williamsburg last week by eating fish, sup
posed to have been caught near a wreck
and impregnated with copper. Their lives
wore all saved by the administration of prop
er remedies.
Z3T A lady at a circus in Chicago recog
nized her long-lost brother in a young ridci
who was offering funs for sale to tho sicc
tators during his "act." Sho fainted away.
When sho recovered tho rider merely said,
" How aro you, Em ?" and went on with
his performance.
E2T Tho Legislature of New Hampshire
has passed an act compelling every parent
or guardian to send his child to public school
for twelve weeks each year. For bIx weeks
at least the schooling must bo continuous.
Tho first violation of this act is punished by
a fine of 10 : tho subsequent violation by
a fine of f 20.
tW A country girl recently rodo into
town to do some shopping. When the clerk
asked if there was anything else he could
do for her, he was amazed by the reply.
" Oh no, sir, unless you will bo kind enough
to go out and milk the old mare, for I rode
her from homo without tho colt."
C3T Early Saturday on the 10th inst., a
well in the vicinity of tho Sulphur Springs
at Avon, caved in, and John Donnally wag
buried 35 feet under tho earth, A number
of men immediately set to work to dig him
out, and at 0 p. m. ho was brought to the
surface, with a few slight injuries.
On Saturday evening, Mrs. Ann II.
Knox, of 72 Kosciusko street, Brooklyn,
heard an unusual noise in tho cellar, and on
going to ascertain tho cause, lound two
Bneak thieves, whom sho attacked with a
club. One of the fellows used a knife and
stubbed her in the left arm, wounding her
slightly. Tho villains then escaped with
out any booty.
ESTOn Sunday evening last some young
leoplo near Rocky Mount, On., were taking
a walk. One young lady, having a small
switch in her hand, struck a young man
who happened to havo a small copper car
tridge in his pantaloons pocket, which ex
ploded, tho ball passing through their cloth
ing and lodging in the kneo of tho lady,
producing a painful and dangerous wound.

Shcppordsville, Ky., for several weeks,
making a living by selling fancy walking
canes which he whittled out. , On Monday
of lust week he found a threatening no
tice posted on the court house door, advis
ing him to quit tho town by 8 o'clock the
next morning. Tho doctor wrote beneath
it: " Notice protested. Pitch in."
t3T Recently a train of tho Mount Holly
Railroad, near Merchantvillo, was going at
ull speed, when the cnginoor saw far ahead
a little girl running along the track. Ho re
versed steam and whistled down brakes,
but the grade being downward, it was Im
possible to stop in time to save tho child's
life. Meantime tho fireman, Lewis Ebert
son, ran out to the front of the locomotive.
Standing ou the cow-catcher, ho caught the
child as tho locomotive touched her gar
ments, and lifted her out of danger.
