A Little Girl Missing,
v Mabvsville, Pa., July 17, 1871.
Mr. Editor On Friday the 14th inst.,
a daughter of Mrs. Kronch, living in Al
len's Cove, aged ten years, was missing, and
although the neighbors from far and near
have been unrelaxing in their searching for
tho child, no tidings have as yet been found,
rip to this writing 12J o'clock, p. m., ou
Monday. It is supposed that two hundred
people have been on the mountain on Sun
day. 1 he mother lives quite on the moun
tain, but the child was familiar with every
road, path, etc.f and to have gono astray
would bo almost out of tho question. The
child is a muto, but very sensitivo in other
respects ; weighs over ono hundred pounds.
Somo persons are of the opinion that the
child has been kidnapped or foully dealt
with; but this is only supposition. Tho
mountain has been so thoroughly searched
that it is impossible for her to be on the
mountain. Yours, fcc,
XXX
Marwillk, Pa., July 22, 1871.
In addition to what I have already writ
ten in regard to the lost child, there is ono
item which I did not mention, and which is
now almost conclusive as to her futo. This
idea forced itself upon the mind of your
correspondent irom tne nrst, nut a great
many laughed at it, so that no mention
was made of it
On Thursday evening previous I Julv 71
to the date of the missing child, two men
carao to tne House or Uiiristlan Derrick,
living a short distance from Mrs. Kronch's
house, and dressed as soldiers. These men
took supper with Mr. D, after which they
took to the fields and kept in between the
Railroad and the mountain, passing near
the residence of the child's mother. On
Friday, sometime in the afternoon, these
same men were still in the neighborhood
and were seen by several parties, only about
one mile from Mrs. K's house.
On Tuesday, (July 11th) report had it.
that two men crossed the N. C. R. R.
Bridge during the night, with a little girl
of the description of the one lout. Some
men followed as far as Pino Grove, where
they were informed that the men passed
with the girl. From the latter place, other
men have gone in pursuit, but with what
success, we have not yet heard. One thing
is certain, that the interest in the matter is
not as great as it should be, from the fact
that the woman is poor and unable to offer
a reward for the recovery of the child.
