HOT A New Haven woman recently
got married, and took her wedding tour in
a horse-car. She wrote to a friend the next
morning saying she was just as well sat
isfied as though she had traveled around
the world.
Covington, Ky., had a case lately
whore a discarded lover murdered the
girl who rejected his suit, whereupon all
the timid old maids met together and
unanimously resolved never to reject an
offor.
I Bryan Cavanough, one of the
Hudson River Railroad thieves, who was
shot on Thursday night at Dobbs Ferry
by the State detectives, died on Saturday
night in Bollevue Hospital. McCormick,
who was wounded at the same time, will
recover.
I Eight persons were poisoned on
Sunday a. week in Philadelphia, by eating
cake bought at a bakers, By prompt
medical aid they were all placed on a fair
way to recover. It is supposed some
mineral poison was put in the cake by
mistake for cream of Tartar.
t& In the common Pleas court at
Philadelphia last week a juror whose
name was called, refused to servo because
a " nigger" as bo said was on the jury.
Judge Ludlow fined him 8200 and order
ed him committed till paid. The juror
promised to stay in prison till he rotted.
55 John Taylor, 84 years of age, an
Englishman, came to this country in
search of his four sons. On the voyage
he was robbod of 100 sovereigns, and JC5
in stiver, all his worldly wealth.
Ho landed at Castle Garden utterly desti
tute, and lodged in tho Church street
police station on Saturday night.
The boarders of a hotel at Ron-
dout, N. Y., have recently become badly
discouraged, just becauso a dead dog was
found in the well from which they had
been drinking water a long time. They
now want to give a couple of dollars as
a reward for evidence which will convict
the man who let go his hold of that dog.

lected about the residence of a newly
married couple in Lyndon, Alleghany
county, N. Y., a few evenings ago, anj
made the night hideous with horns, guns,
etc., were fired upon by some one, and two
of them were killed. A brother of the
bridegroom bos been arrested.
I A Maine woman, whose husband
was in jail on a debt due a liquor dealer
in Portland, went to the saloon of the lat
ter, called for, drank and paid for a glass
of liquor, and then demanded the release
of ber husband. Tho dealer, fearing a
seizure and prosecution in case he refused,
caused tho man to be released.
t& A ' mysterious occurrence took
place lately at Haverhill, Mass. Four
sailors, with trunks uud carpet bag, land
ed there in an open boat, set fire to the
boat, watched it until it was entirely de
stroyed, and then took cars fur Portland.
Nobody knows who the straivgers were, or
whenco they came.

the same office, the latter having received
