Fine Sweet Potatoes. We were last
week presented with as fine a cluster of
sweet potatoes as ' we ever saw. There
were in the bunch, all growing from one
vine, ten potatoes, the smallest measuring
11 inches in length and the largest 21 inch
es, and weighing nearly three pounds, the
total weight of the lot being 17 pounds.
They were raisedjby James Blaiu of Juniata
twp., from seed brought from New Jersey.
An Arrest. A young man of this bor
ough was arrested last Wednesday on the
charge of entering and robbing the store of
J. W. Gotwalt. For a long time the pro
prietor has been aware that some persons
was frequently entering his premises and
taking the change left in the drawer over
night, and some other small articles, but
only recently has found what he thought
evidence sufficient to warrant an arrest.
We omit the name of the young man arres
ted until the matter has been fully investi
gated, and he has had a chance to prove
that he is innocent, which we hope he will
be able to do.
Distressing Death. The little girl of
a Sir. Gilmore, residing in the Sixth ward,
got hold of some concentrated lye that
had been left in a tin, the other day, and
drank a portion of it. The mother soon
discovered the fact, and immediately sum
moned medical attendance, but nothing
could be done to save the child, which died
yesterday morning. AUoona Daily Bun.

Not the Mnn, A few days since informa
tion was received by tho Sheriff that a man
supposed to be Park Shcplcy, but calling
himself Wm. Ifobinson, and who answered
to the description of tho fellow who com
mitted an infamous outrago on a littlo girl
near this borough, in tho early part of last
month, was nt work near Ncwvillc, Cum
berland Co. A warrant for his arrest was
at onco issued and placed in tho hands of
Mr. Isaac G. Black, Deputy Sheriff, who
returned on Tuesday last with the prisoner,
and placed him in jail in this borough.
From tho contradictory stories told by Rob
inson and his unwillingness to stato where
he was during tho llrst part of September,
the authorities wcro sure they had the right
man but when brought into tho preseuco
of the child eho unhesitatingly stated she
had never seen him before. Tho prisoner
was therefore discharged. Wo hope tho
efforts to arrest tho guilty person will yet
provo successful.
A New Taper. Tho " Stato Journal,"
which was annouccd as successor to tho
Daily Topic, has made its appearance, ac
cording to promise. The citizens of Ilar
risburg, and of tho State, will, wo trust,
give tho Journal the hearty support that it
merits, judging from tho numbers we have
seen, entitle it to. It is under tho editorial
management of J. II. Sypher, Esq., well
known by a long connection with tho New
York Tribune.
The " Tyrone Herald" says that a littlo
while ago a dentist opened an office at
Phillipsburg, and announced to tho people
of that town that ho would extract teeth
lor fa, ana prepare tho mouth for a new
set. ' Tho $2 ho required in advanco of
an operation. The new set ho promissd to
furnish and put in for ten dollars, on six
month's timo. About two hundred per
sons called on him and had their old teeth
drawn out and engaged new ones. One
day he left, no ono knows whore. Two
hundred men and women without teeth in
one little town.
Itouucd. A gentleman from tho west,
while occupying a sleeping berth in a car of
the Pacific express east, Saturday, was rob

were notified by telegraph, and several sus
pected persons were examined when tho
