How to Hire Bees.
On tVis point the Rural American
" When honey bees swarm 'they will
duster, ninety-nine casc9 out of a hun
dred, if trees or suitable shrubbery bo
near the apiary, without the ringing of
bells or tattling of tin pans. I5ut if a
swarm has sent out scouts previously to
swarming, and has settled upon a hollow
tree in the woods to go to, they are
often inclined to go direct to such
tree3 without clustering, and in such
cases their flight may be arrested some
times by nuking such a din, by the rat
tling of tin pans or the ringing of bells,
that the hum of the queen is lost, when
the bees will descend and cluster immedi--ately.
If water be thrown among them
to full' like rain, which may be done when
their flight is low, that will cause them to
alight So will the report of a guu fired
near them.
Bees generally remain from one to
twenty-four hours. Indeed, if not hived,
they will sometimes remain and die where
they cluster, dwindling away by degrees,
consequently it is best to have hives
ready, and hive them as soon as possible ;
and they may bo carried immediately to
the stand where they are to remain fur
the season, or they may be left till even
ing and then removed. It do'S not make
much or any difference, which way is
adopted.

Some cooks will throw out water in
which meats have been boiled, without
letting it cool to take off the fat.
Bits of meat are thrown out which
would make hash meat or hash.
The fljur is sifted in a careless manner
and the bread pan left with the dough
sticking to it.
Pie crust is laid by to sour, instead of
making tarts for tea.
Cold pudding is considered good for
nothing, when oftentimes it can be steam
ed for the next day.
Vegetables are thrown away that would
warm for breakfast nicely.
Dish cloths are thrown where mice
can destroy them.
The scrubbiug brush is left in the
water.
Tubs and barrels are left in the sun to
dry and fall apart.
Nice handled knives are thrown into
hot water.
Silver spoons are used to scrape ket
tles. Cream is allowed to mould and spoil.
Ccffee, tea, pepper, and spices are left to
stand open and lose their strength.
The cork is left out of the molasses jug
and the flies take possession.
Vinegur is drawn in a tin basin and al
lowed to staud until both basin and vine
gar are spoiled.
Summer Care of Milch Cows.
Cows require Bhade in Summer, and if
at liberty, will go a considerable distance
to find it. If deprived of this comfort,
and compelled to bear the heat of the sun
all day, they will lose condition and "go
b.ick" in their milk. The UBual grazing
times for stock in very hot weather, are
in the evening after sunset, at night and
early in the morning while the grass is
wet with dew. Wherever good pasture
is available, dairy-farming will be found
very profitable. Milch cows should have
the best pasture and bo protected from
annoyance of every kind. Playful or
vicious, young or old horses, sometimes in
jure milch cows in various ways. It is
not good husdaudry to grase hogs on the
same fields with milch cows, as they tramp
the grass and defile it with their drop
ping. A plentiful supply of pure fresh
water should be available. Milch cows
should be treated gently and never driven
quick, to or from milking. A plentiful
supply of green corn soiling should ba
ready in August in case of failure of the
, pasture from drought. Every farmer
should have a large field of sowed corn.

shelves, simply wash them with a decoc
tion of logwood and then varnish with
shellac dissolved in alcohol. After a time
the shelves will become quite dark and
look yery handsome. The process requires
no skill; any intelligent boy or girl can
stain or Tarnish shelves in this way. .
Sowing Grass Seed Alone.
A correspondent of the Mew England
Farmer advocates sewing grass seed by
itself at least when the land is moderately
low. lie says: The 14th of last May I
sowed half an acre of low land to herds
grass, clover and red top; in a few days
the seed came up and grew equal to any
of my meadows that had been in grass fur
years. The 4th of August 1 mowed it,
it then being in bloom. I did not weigh
it, but judged there was a ton and a quar
ter on the half acre, and tho best hay
that I put in my barn last year, I should
judge by the way the cattle ate it. This
experiment has convinced mo tii. t the
spring is the best time to sow grass seed
and sow it without any kind of grain.
How to Keep Bacon.
Noticing an iuquiry in tho Rural
World for the best method of keeping
bacon in the, summer, I give you mine.
Of course I thoroughly cure my hams
and shoulders first by pickling and smok
ing. Then with a cutting machine, cut
up hay as for horses and then put in sacks
with the bacon, having put hay enough
on the outhide to prcventthe flyreachiiig
with his proboscis any of the meat; and
then hang up in a dry place, and they
will keep in fine order all summer. They
will keep dry, free from skippers; they
are handy to be taken out of tho sacks
and used at any time. Indeed hanging
up in a room in this way seems to help in
their curing and they improvo with ago

The Auteiior ahporbs. Interior consists of
tissues or veins, which serve as a detiosit for
the urine and convey It to the Exterior. Tub

are connected with the bludder.
The bladder is comiioisod of various cover
ings or tissues, divided into Duits, viz. : tho
Upper, the Lower, the Nervous, and the Mucous.

others urinate without the ability to retain.
This frequently occurs in children.

gravel ensues.

ing to the parts affected, viz.: when general
ly diffused over the body, it is culled Anasarca ;
